WORCESTER -- The WPI women's rowing team raced on a damp, chilly morning Sunday with dead calm, flat water on Lake Quinsigamond before conditions turned into a slight headwind as the races progressed.
In the varsity eight, WPI finished second in 7:23.39 behind No. 3 Tufts (6:56.79), the two-time defending NCAA Division III national champion, in racing for the Bernie Brown Cup. The victory marked the third straight Bernie Brown Cup for the Jumbos in contested racing.
The second varsity eight also placed second with a time of 7:40.60, trailing Tufts (7:06.70).
The third varsity eight saw WPI finish fourth in 8:18.30 behind Tufts A (7:18.50), Tufts B (7:26.90) and Tufts C (7:42.00).
The Engineers return to the water next Saturday, co-hosting the NEWMAC Women's Rowing Championship with Clark against No. 5 Wellesley, No. 6 Smith, No. 11 Coast Guard, Mount Holyoke and Simmons.
