  • Football’s Pacheco and Day Named CoSIDA Academic All-District
    November 20, 2017
    WORCESTER – Senior Dereck Pacheco (Barnstable, MA) and junior Nick Day (Northampton, MA) have garnered CoSIDA Academic All-District I Football accolades, as voted upon by the sports information directors from Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. The civil engineering majors now move on to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration.
  • Football Earns First Postseason Win, Defeats Maritime (NY) in New England Bowl Series

    WORCESTER – Junior Luca Cerasani (Abington, MA) was named the Most Valuable Player as the WPI football team earned its first-ever postseason game in the form of a 17-3 triumph over visiting Maritime (NY) Saturday in a New England Bowl Series matchup Saturday night in Alumni Stadium.
  • Seven Fall Student-Athletes Named to NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship Teams

    Westwood, MA --- WPI seniors Pavolas Christidis (Fairport, NY), Aaron Hartford (Norwell, MA), Kat Hurlock (Burlington, CT), Abby King (Fairfield, ME) and Lizzie Rooney (Harvard, MA) were named to NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship teams. Junior Ryan Wittenberg (Bedford, NH) and sophomore Ariana Rozen (Carver, MA) also made the list.
  • Herrington Named Special Teams Athlete of the Year as 14 Garner All-NEWMAC Honors

    Westwood, MA --- Led by NEWMAC Special Teams Athlete of the Year junior Spencer Herrington (Clearfield, PA), nine members of the WPI football team were named NEWMAC All-Conference first teamers and five were placed on the second team for their efforts so far this fall. Senior defensive back Aaron Hartford (Norwell, MA) highlighted the NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship team.
  • Football to Host Maritime (NY) Saturday Night in New England Bowl Series Matchup

    The Curry Colonels, the Framingham State Rams, the Maritime Privateers and the WPI Engineers have been selected as the participants in the 2017 New England Bowl Series which will be played at local sites on Saturday, November 18. 
  • McAllen and Garcia Help Send Football to 42-7 Victory in Regular Season Finale at Norwich

    Northfield, VT --- Sean McAllen ran for 132 yards and became WPI’s all-time single season rushing leader and Lou Garcia returned the second of his two second half interceptions for a touchdown as the Engineers went on the road and defeated Norwich 42-7 in the regular season finale on a chilly Saturday afternoon.

    Westwood, MA --- WPI Senior Dereck Pacheco (Barnstable, MA) and junior Spencer Herrington (Clearfield, PA) have garnered NEWMAC Football weekly awards. Pacheco shares NEWMAC Football Defensive Athlete of the Week honors with MIT senior Mitch Turley (Westfield, IN) while Herrington hauls in his fourth NEWMAC Special Teams Athlete of the Week nod of the season and third in as many weeks.
  • Keyed by McAllen and Field, Football Sails Past Coast Guard on Senior Day

    WORCESTER – The sophomore running back duo of Sean McAllen (Prospect, CT) and Connor Field (Granby, CT) combined for 209 yards and five of six rushing touchdowns, and WPI scored 30 consecutive points in the second half of a 44-16 NEWMAC Football triumph over visiting United States Coast Guard Academy Saturday in Alumni Stadium.
  • Football’s Herrington Recognized by the Fred Mitchell Award Committee

    WORCESTER – WPI junior Spencer Herrington (Clearfield, PA) is among 41 student-athletes currently on the Fred Mitchell Award Watch List, which recognizes place-kickers for their excellence on the football field and for continued community service during their off-season. Herrington is the second different WPI student-athlete to make the monthly scrolls as Blaine Bursey was feted in 2015 and 2016.

  • Ostrowski Dominant as Football Holds off MIT; Wins Fourth Consecutive Game

    Cambridge, MA --- Nick Ostrowski (Charlton, MA) totaled 11 tackles, forced a fumble and returned a 55-yard pick-six as WPI went on the road and defeated MIT 24-21 in NEWMAC football action Saturday in Steinbrenner Stadium.

    WORCESTER -- Senior Blake Rice (North Branford, CT) accumulated 233 yards and four touchdowns, including two by sophomore Nic Rossi (Freehold, NJ), in a 41-7 WPI win over visiting U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in a NEWMAC Football game Saturday at Alumni Stadium.

    Westwood, MA --- WPI senior Blake Rice (North Branford, CT) and junior Brian Mahan (Ashland, MA) have garnered NEWMAC Football weekly honors. Rice was tabbed as the NEWMAC Co-Offensive Athlete of the Week along with Merchant Marine senior Brice Moore (Pace, FL) while Mahan was named as the NEWMAC Defensive Athlete of the Week.

    WASHINGTON D.C. --- Brian Mahan (Ashland, MA) registered three interceptions as the WPI defense forced five turnovers and Blake Rice (North Branford, CT) threw for three touchdowns as the Engineers went on the road and defeated Catholic 31-14 Saturday afternoon in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. The Crimson and Gray head into their bye week with a 4-2 overall record and 2-1 mark in NEWMAC play while Catholic slips to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in conference action.

    WORCESTER -- Sophomore Sean McAllen (Prospect, CT) ran for 182 yards on 23 carries with two touchdowns to go with a receiving TD while senior Lou Garcia (Springfield, MA) hauled in a pair of interceptions, including a pick-six, as the WPI football program earned its first-ever win in the NEWMAC era with a 45-0 triumph over visiting Maine Maritime Saturday afternoon in Alumni Stadium.
  • Coach To Cure MD Celebrates 10th Season Saturday

    Hackensack, NJ --- For the 10th-consecutive year, college football coaches nationwide will join in support of the Coach To Cure MD program, held during games of Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017. The annual effort has raised more than a $1.5 million to battle Duchenne muscular dystrophy (Duchenne).
  • Jennifer Toland: 25 years later, WPI to celebrate sports triumvirate

    The fall of 1992 was a fantastic time for WPI athletics. In October of that year, the school’s field hockey, football and men’s soccer teams were all ranked No. 1 in New England. The men’s soccer team rose as high as No. 3 nationally and all three teams made their respective NCAA Tournaments.
  • Football Knocked Off on the Road by Springfield in NEWMAC Debut

    Springfield, MA --- Jake Eglintine and Tyler Hyde both rushed for over a hundred yards and a touchdown and Jordan Wilcox added 84 yards on the ground and a pair of scores as host Springfield bested WPI 42-10 in the first-ever NEWMAC football game for both teams.
  • McAllen, Football Rumble Past Becker in Non-Conference Finale

    WORCESTER – Sophomore Sean McAllen (Prospect, CT) scored three touchdowns, and accumulated game-bests of 119 yards on 25 attempts and 85 yards on three receptions, in a 38-0 victory over Becker in the Engineers last non-conference football game on the 2017 schedule.
  • Football Upended by RPI in Transit Trophy Game on Homecoming

    WORCESTER – Junior Ed Trimpert (Hillsboro, NJ) amassed 234 yards on 11-for-17 passing and five touchdowns and senior Sean Egan (Watervliet, NY) accounted for three of six WPI turnovers as RPI reclaimed the Transit Trophy with a 36-14 victory Saturday afternoon in Alumni Stadium.

  • Football Set to Face RPI for the Transit Trophy - What is the Transit Trophy?

    The 111th meeting between WPI and RPI is set for Saturday at 1pm in Alumni Stadium. The visitors from the Albany area enjoy a 58-47-5 advantage in the series. WPI won last fall 19-7 in Troy and has now claimed the four of seven Transit Trophies games under eighth year head coach Chris Robertson.

Springfield senior Jake Eglintine (Ballston Spa, NY) took home offensive athlete of the week laurels.

    WORCESTER — At 6-foot-2 and about 200 pounds, Nabeel Tokatli was one of the bigger kids on Doherty High’s soccer team. In fact, his classmate Michael Bahnan said, every time Highlanders football coach Sean Mulcahy saw Tokatli walking down the school’s halls, he would ask him when he was joining his team.
