Men's Crew's Opens Spring by Winning Class of 2003 Cup

Worcester, MA --- Men's Crew began its 2009 season on a high note, winning the Class of 2003 Cup versus Wesleyan, Colby and UMass on Saturday afternoon on Worcester's Lake Quinsigamond.  The Varsity Eight of Connor McGrath (Troy, NY), Ben Johnson (Northford, CT), Hank Moore (Jaffrey, NH), Andrew Sandefer (New Orleans, LA), Arthur Gager (Kennebunk, ME), Sebastien Cohn (Orinda, CA), Tobin McGee (Rye, NY), Scott Gary (Lubbock, TX) and coxswain Bethany Bouchard (Nashua, NH) recorded a time of 6:15.59 to beat Wesleyan by less than a second to win the cup.

The Second Varsity Eight of Jeff Onderdonk (Colechester, CT), Josh Wimble (Albans, VT), Don Havener (Turner, ME), Ricky Holak (Windham, NH), John Madura (Hewitt, NJ), Zack Theoharidis (Sedgwick, ME), Nick Vitello (Tolland, CT), Max French (Harwinton, CT) and cox Brenna Colleary (Southboro, MA) was also victorious, crossing the finish line in 6:39.97.

The Fourth Eight comprised of Chris Carrigan (Northboro, MA), Philip Kellermeier (Berlin, Germany), Jack Sternal (Westfield, NJ), Francis Pallien (Oakland, NJ), Doug Griesbach (Pocono Pines, PA), Rafeal Gil-Figueroa (Vienna, VA), Max Benko (Holmes, NY), James MacDonald (Worcester, MA) and Lauren Moloney (Buffalo, NY) rowed to victory (6:58.56) finishing just ahead of teammates Mike Mourkas (Hampden, ME), Andrew Emerson (York, ME), Adam Panzica (Freeport, ME), Corey Stevens (Douglas, MA), Alex Becker (Webster, MA), Dan Pierson (Hampton, NH), Marshall Bernklow (Devens, MA), Justin Bales (Upland, CA) and Nina Bass (Trumbull, CT) who were second (7:03.48) in the event.

The Varsity Four combination of Panzica, Emerson, Bernklow, Kellermeier and Bass teamed up to post a 8:02.47 finish which was good enough for second while the  Novice Eight (Mourkas, Theohavidis, Becker, Holak, Madura, Pierson, Stevens, Bales and cox Jillian Kloc (Elma, NY)) took home third (6:49.21).

Men's Crew is back on the water tomorrow morning at 8am when they face off against Bates and the University of Rhode Island.
