WORCESTER -- WPI's men's rowing had a memorable day Saturday in the New England Championships on Lake Quinsigamond.  The Crimson and Gray saw all five of its boats reach their respective grand finals en route to a second overall team finish.

Leading the way was the varsity eight as the Engineers collected a bronze medal.  WPI led a significant portion of the race and placed third (6:10.472), just behind champion Bates (6:07.876) and Williams (6:10.472).  It was a great bounce back for the host who had posted a nearly identical time of 6:10.471 in its morning heat but had finished just behind Wesleyan.

The second varsity eight was sixth in the grand final (6:27.006) after placing second in the morning heat with a time of 6:17.825.   The third varsity eight took nearly the same path, finishing third in the morning (6:55.073) and reaching Regatta Point (7:07.679) sixth in the grand final.   The novice eight recorded the same spots as the third varsity eight, placing sixth in the grand final (6:43.200) and third in the heats (6:27.741).

The varsity four earned a bronze medal.  The Boynton Hillers (7:04.685) were 0.15 seconds behind second place Bowdoin in the grand final won by Middlebury.    WPI had posted a second place time of 6:59.630 in the morning heats.

As a team, the Engineers amassed 76.25 points, just behind first place Bates (79.01).  The second place finish equals the program best from the 2009 and 2011 Championships.

Men's Rowing wraps up its season a week from Sunday on May 8th in the National Invitational Rowing Championships on Lake Quinsigamond.
