WORCESTER – Sophomore Brandon Hima (Watertown, CT) and freshman Kevin Krupa (Reading, MA) each scored their first collegiate goal in a 2-0 WPI men's soccer triumph over Fitchburg State Wednesday night in Alumni Stadium.

With the win, the Engineers are now 10-4 and the Falcons are 4-7-2.

Hima made a spin move on a pass from sophomore Jackson Conroy (Reading, MA) and buried the ball from 25 yards out at 23:45. Krupa connected on a backwards kick by senior Anthony Vigliotta (Beverly, MA) at the top of the box to make it 2-0 in the 72nd minute.

Defensively, senior Jordan Finzel (Northport, NY), who is now 12-1-1 all-time with six shared shutouts, improved to 2-0 on the year while freshman Rufus Adams (Duxbury, MA) made his debut later in the game. The back line starters, graduate student Nate Peterson (Mashpee, MA), senior Derrick Naugler (Westford, MA), senior Reese Petersen (Springfield, NJ) and sophomore Ben Rickson (West Warren, MA) did not allow a shot to reach Finzel or Adams.

Fitchburg State senior backstop Alex Al-Zaibak (Hingham, MA) halted four shots, including a diving, punching-save on a bid by junior Frank Ciliberto (Spencerport, NY) at 34:20. The Falcons also registered a team save in the effort. Sophomore Daniel Parker (Lake Forest, CA) and classmate Matthew Krikorian (Groton, MA) were each credited with a shot for the guests.

WPI hosts nationally-ranked Springfield in a critical NEWMAC showdown Saturday at 7pm in Alumni Stadium. Fitchburg State travels to Westfield State for a MASCAC matchup at noon, also on Saturday.
