• Jillson and Arredondo Earn Academic All-America Honors

    Worcester, MA --- Kevin Jillson and Jarrett Arredondo have been named ESPN The Magazine/Co-SIDA Academic All-Americans for Men's Track and Field and Cross Country. Jillson took home second team accolades, while Arredondo garnered third team honors. WPI and Division II Adams State (CO) were the only College Division institutions to have multiple student-athletes named to the teams.

    Worcester, MA --- For the second straight year, WPI’s Kevin Jillson and Jarrett Arredondo earned first team ESPN The Magazine/Co-SIDA All-District I honors for Men’s Track and Field and Cross Country. The duo were two of 10 student-athletes who were selected to the first team in the College Division, which is comprised of NCAA Division II and III and NAIA programs in New England, New York and Eastern Canada.

    Worcester, MA --- Jarrett Arredondo earned All-America accolades by finishing seventh in the hammer throw on Thursday afternoon at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Marietta (OH). The junior registered a toss of 179-11 to become the first WPI men’s track and field All-American since James Hammond finished eighth in the hammer throw at the 2000 championships.
  • Chabot Named New England Men's Track & Field Coach of the Year

    New Orleans, LA --- First-year head coach Brian Chabot was among the 64 men’s and women’s regional athletes and coaches of the year for the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field season, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced on Monday. Coach Chabot was named the Men's Outdoor Track and Field Coach of the Year for the New England region.

    Worcester, MA --- WPI Men's Track and Field athletes Jarrett Arredondo and Jeff Baker have been selected to compete at the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Marietta (OH). Arredondo will be participating in the hammer throw on Thursday at 1pm while Baker will be competing in the javelin on the same day at 3:30pm.
  • Roy an NCAA Provisional Qualifier for Men's Track and Field

    Springfield, MA --- Junior Ben Roy and senior Joe Krasinskas each earned All-ECAC honors en route to an impressive 21st place team finish (14 points) at the ECAC Championships at Springfield. Moravian finished with 64.5 points to take home the meet title. Roy had an exceptional two days on the track, amassing 6235 points to finish second in the decathlon. Roy's 6235 points make him a NCAA provisional qualifier.
  • Baker Places Fifth in the Discus to End Women's Track Season

    Springfield, MA --- Junior Krista Baker earned All-ECAC accolades in the discus to lead WPI to a 43rd place finish at the ECAC Championships at Springfield. Moravian took home the meet title with 67 points. Baker had a great meet for the Engineers, finishing fifth (127-03) overall in the discus. Yesterday she heaved the hammer 150-11 to place ninth in the event for the Crimson and Gray.
  • Men's Track and Field Strong in Day #1 of ECAC's

    Springfield, MA --- Several members of WPI Men's Track and Field are competing at the ECAC Championships at Springfield College. The Engineers are currently tied for 20th place with three points while Cortland State leads the pack with 21.5 points. WPI saw four athletes complete in the hammer throw on the day as Jarrett Arredondo led the pack with his distance of 169-10 and sixth place finish. Jeff Baker, Fran Collins and Jason Reynolds combined to place 13th, 14th and 16th respectively.

Baker posted a distance of 150-11 to take home a ninth place finish in the hammer throw for the Crimson and Gray. The ECAC Championships resume tomorrow morning beginning at 10am.

    Amherst, MA --- WPI Men's Track and Field finished in 29th place at the All-New England Outdoor Championships at UMass Amherst this afternoon. Rhode Island took home the meet title, earning 103 points throughout the two day event. Worcester's Joe Krasinskas led the Engineers with his third place finish (54.44) in the 400 meter hurdles.

    Amherst, MA --- Women's Track and Field competed at the two-day All-New England Outdoor Championships hosted by UMass Amherst. Boston College came away with the meet title, amassing 87 points at the event. Krista Baker paced the Crimson and Gray with an 11th place (123-03) finish in the discus and the 19th spot (143-05) in the hammer throw.

    Springfield, MA --- Six WPI athletes garnered All-New England honors as the Engineers battled to a fourth place finish at the New England Division III Championships hosted by Springfield College. Williams captured the meet title with 136.66 points. Jeff Baker and Kyle Morette led the way for the Engineers – Baker with his victory in the javelin (195-8) and Morette with his 14-9 mark and pole vault title.

    Springfield, MA --- WPI Women’s Track and Field competed at the New England Division III Championships on Friday and Saturday. The Engineers came home with a 22nd place finish while MIT was the overall meet winner with 152.5 points. Leading the way for WPI were Amanda Gurnon and Stacy Rudolf who placed 9th (3132 points)and 10th (3115 points)in the seven-event heptathlon, respectively.

After two days of competition, the Engineers hold on to third place (16 points) overall while Williams leads the pack with 29 points. Jarrett Arredondo continued his impressive season leading the WPI brigade in the hammer throw. Arredondo threw his way to second place finish while teammates Jeff Baker and Fran Collins placed 7th and 8th respectively.

The Engineers are currently in 8th place with four points while host Springfield is in first place overall with 33 points. Krista Baker earned All-New England status in the hammer throw with a fifth place heave of 149-2 while Emily Pearce recorded a distance of 14-10.75 to take home 25th in the long jump.

Those honored include Amanda Gurnon, Stacy Rudolf, Liz Schreiber, Danielle Volpe, Funmi Adebayo and Marisa Gray.

    Babson Park, MA --- Freshman men's track and field pole vaulter Kyle Morette was named the NEWMAC Men's Track and Field Rookie of the Year on Tuesday. Morette posted an impressive outdoor season, placing second at the NEWMAC Championships and is an NCAA Provisional Qualifier in his first season. Head Coach Brian Chabot also was honored, taking home the NEWMAC Coach of the Year award in his first season at the helm.

WPI accumulated 60 points while meet champion MIT finished with 248. Baker launched the discus 122-09 to be crowned NEMWAC Champion before adding a third place (148-07) finish in the hammer throw.

    Worcester, MA --- Ben Roy, Amanda Gurnon and Stacy Rudolf all qualified for the New England Division III Championships with their performances at the Holy Cross Multi Meet on Wednesday and Thursday. Roy tallied 5178 points to finish 12th overall in the ten-event decathlon while Gurnon and Rudolf battled to 11th (3175 points) and 13th (3165 points) in the seven-event heptathlon, respectively.

The Engineers tallied 97 points to finish third while Coast Guard took the top spot at the meet with 142 points. Jarrett Arredondo continued to dominate his events taking home victories in the shot put and hammer throw. Jeff Baker finished on top in the javelin while Keith Flanders fought to first in the 3000 meter steeplechase.

    Springfield, MA --- Women's Track and Field tallied 86 points to finish second at a tri-meet with Springfield and Coast Guard on Saturday. Host Springfield took the overall win with 213.5 points. Freshman Emily Pearce was the sole Engineer to bring home a victory for WPI, a 9-00.25 mark in the pole vault. She also finished second in the long jump ahead of teammate Amanda Gurnon, who placed fourth.

    Worcester, MA --- Jarrett Arredondo and Matt Whitman each earned a pair of victories to help Men's Track and Field to third place at the Engineers Cup. Host WPI tallied 113 points while MIT was the meet winner with 160.50 points. Arredondo continued his outstanding season with victories in the hammer throw and shot put while Whitman picked up wins in the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes.

Baker's victories came in the hammer throw, shot put and discus while teammate Chrystian Dennis won the 100 meters. Dennis also took home second in the 200 meters and third in the long jump.

    Worcester, MA --- WPI junior Jarrett Arredondo took the top spot in the hammer throw and the shot put as the Engineers finished in first place at this year's Men's Outdoor Track and Field Worcester City Meet. WPI completed the meet with 185 points. Worcester State came in second with 161 points, while Assumption finished third, tallying 103 points.

    Worcester, MA --- WPI Women's Track and Field turned in a first-place showing at the Worcester City Meet at WPI on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers compiled a meet-best 293 points, with Fitchburg State finishing second with 188 points and Assumption third with 45. Krista Baker won both the hammer throw and discus, and finished second in the shot put, to lead WPI to the title.
