Worcester, MA --- WPI’s Jarrett Arredondo has been named a ESPN The Magazine/Co-SIDA Academic All-America for Men's Track and Field and Cross Country. The senior thrower took home first team honors after picking up third team accolades last spring. It marks the 34th time a WPI student-athlete has earned Academic All-America status and Arredondo becomes just the eighth multiple winner and the seventh to be recognized as a first teamer.
Worcester, MA --- WPI men’s track and field event student-athletes Jarrett Arredondo and Jeff Baker were named to The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I first team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (Co-SIDA).
The duo, who now advances to the national ballot for All-America consideration.
Worcester, MA --- WPI women’s track and field student-athlete Funmi Adebayo has been named to The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I second team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (Co-SIDA). Adebayo is the first WPI women’s track and field athlete to garner All-District accolades since Lindsay Bulso took home the honor following the 2004-2005 season.
Berea, OH --- WPI's Jeff Baker finished ninth in the javelin Thursday afternoon at the NCAA Division III Men’s Track and Field Championships hosted by Baldwin Wallace. Baker threw the javelin 57.68 meters (189 feet, 3 inches) on his third attempt of the day and missed All-America status by just one place.
New Orleans, LA --- The WPI Track and Field program picked up four individual New England regional awards this week from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Krista Baker earned New England Women’s Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year, Brian Chabot was tabbed Women’s Coach of the Year while Mike Stomski and Vinny Kotowski were named Men’s and Women’s Assistant Coaches of the Year respectively.
Worcester, MA --- For the third consecutive year, WPI’s Jeff Baker has been selected to participate in the NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships. Baker will be competing in the javelin at 1pm on Thursday, May 27th at the meet hosted at Baldwin Wallace College in Berea, OH. Baker earned his spot in the field in his first competition of the spring.
Cambridge, MA --- Kyle Morette and Fran Collins improved upon their NCAA qualifying standards to highlight WPI’s performance at the MIT Last Chance Track and Field Meet on Friday afternoon. Morette cleared 15-9.25 in the pole vault, bettering his school record height by a quarter of an inc. While it might not sound like much, the new height puts him along in 18th place according to Raceberryjam.com
Cambridge, MA --- Krista Baker established a new school record and provisionally qualified in the hammer throw for the NCAA Division III Championships in MIT’s Last Chance Track and Field Meet held on Friday afternoon. The senior threw the hammer 163-10, besting the old school record of 155-0 set by 2009 WPI Hall of Fame inductee Kerri Coleman. According to Raceberryjam.com, Baker would have the 16th best distance in the country.
WPI President Dennis Berkey and members of the WPI Board of Trustees, along with the Moonraker 2.0 robot, broke ground today for a 145,000-square-foot sports and recreation center. The new center will be built into the hillside at the west end of the WPI Quadrangle and is designed to meet LEED certification standards. The facility is scheduled to open in August 2012.
Springfield, MA --- Senior Ben Roy won the decathlon and classmate Fran Collins joined him as an NCAA provisional qualifier in day two action from the ECAC Division III Track and Field Championships hosted by Springfield on Friday afternoon. Roy amassed 6165 points over the two-day decathlon, winning the title by nearly 300 points.
Worcester, MA --- Senior Krista Baker picked up an All-ECAC honor for the second straight day to highlight WPI second’s day of competition at the ECAC Division III Championships hosted by Springfield College on Friday. The Engineers placed 34th with seven points while Williams won the meet with a total of 73 points. Baker tossed the discus 130-8 feet to finish sixth and earned All-ECAC in the event for the third straight year.
Springfield, MA --- Four WPI athletes earned All-ECAC honors, as Mens Track and Field appeared at the first day of competition at the ECAC Championships hosted by Springfield on Thursday. WPI is right in the thick of it after one day of competition, as the Engineers sit in sixth with 14 points. Williams leads the pack with 20 after day one.

Dedham, MA --- Kyle Morette and Fran Collins each took home All-New England honors as Men's Track and Field competed at day two of the New England All-Divisions meet hosted by Northeastern on Saturday. Morette and Collins' efforts helped Men's Track and Field to four All-New England performances overall.
Dedham, MA --- Distance runner Vicky Hewey continued her stellar freshman season by earning All-New England honors in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, leading WPI Womens Track and Field at the second day of competition at the New England All-Divisions championship meet hosted by Northeastern. The 4x400 relay team also set a new school standard.
Dedham, MA --- Jeff Baker and Peter Brown picked up All-New England honors Friday during day one of the New England All-Divisions meet hosted by Northeastern. Baker placed seventh in the javelin with a toss of 194-1 while Brown finished eighth in the 10,000 meters in a school record time of 31:49.28.
Dedham, MA --- Five WPI Womens Track and Field athletes participated Friday in the first day of competition at the New England All-Divisions championship meet hosted by Northeastern. Senior Elizabeth Hegarty turned in the top finish, placing 10th in the 10,000 meters with a time of 41:42.03. while sophomore Emily Pearce cleared 10-6 en route to a 12th place finish.
Medford, MA --- Six WPI athletes grabbed All-New England honors to lead Men's Track and Field to 30 points and a 10th place team finish at the New England Division III Championships Friday and Saturday at Tufts University. WPI took three of the top five spots in the hammer throw to lead the way, while Williams captured the overall meet title with 159 points.
Springfield, MA --- WPI Women's Track and Field competed at the New England Division III Championships on Friday and Saturday. The Engineers performed well, with six athletes taking all-New England honors and the team coming home with an 11th place finish. Krista Baker (2nd - hammer throw) Vicky Hewey (3rd - steeplechase) and Chrystian Dennis (5th - 100 meters) all registered top-five results for WPI.
Babson Park, MA --- 16 WPI men track and field student-athletes were named Wednesday to the NEWMAC All-Academic team. The Crimson and Gray boasted the second most student-athletes selected in the seven-team conference. Seniors Jarrett Arredondo, Fran Collins and Dan Duffty received the honor for the third straight season while junior Jeff Baker was recognized for the second consecutive year.
Babson Park, MA --- Eight WPI womens track and field student athletes were tabbed Wednesday to the 2010 NEWMAC Womens Track and Field Academic All-Conference Team. The total ranked the Engineers fourth in the 10-team conference, just one behind MIT and Mount Holyoke (9 each) and Springfield (19). Seniors Stacy Rudolf, Liz Schreiber and Danielle Volpe distinguished themselves by earning the honor for the third consecutive spring.
Babson Park, MA --- Freshman distance runner Vicky Hewey was named the NEWMAC Women's Track and Field Rookie of the Year in voting announced today by the conference coaches. Head Coach Brian Chabot also was honored, taking home the NEWMAC Women's Track and Field Coach of the Year award. Hewey won the steeplechase and the 5000 meters at this past weekends NEWMAC championships.

The Engineers finished third in the conference with 129 points, while MIT was the NEWMAC Champion with 197.5.
Babson Park, MA --- WPI senior Ben Roy has been named the NEWMAC Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the week ending Sunday, April 18th. Roy finished fourth in the decathlon at the Holy Cross Multi Event meet held at Holy Cross on Wednesday and Thursday. It marks the third time in four weeks a WPI mens track athlete has been honored by the conference.
Fitchburg, MA --- Men's Track and Field had a great day on Saturday as WPI recorded 238 points en route to first place at the Eric Loeschner Memorial Meet hosted by Fitchburg State. The hosts were second with 139 points, while Brandeis placed third with 104. WPI featured several strong performances, posting six event victories.
Fitchburg, MA --- Senior Krista Baker posted two of the team's seven victories to help Womens Track and Field to an impressive first place finish at the Eric Loeschner Memorial Meet hosted by Fitchburg State on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers scored 253 points at the event, enough to top host Fitchburg State which was second with 189 points and Assumption which was third with 77.
Worcester, MA --- Three WPI track and field athletes qualified for the New England Division III Championships at this weeks Holy Cross Multiple Event meet. Freshman Adrianna Davis set a school record while placing while ninth (3716 points) in the heptathlon while senior Ben Roy and sophomore Mike Thyden finished fourth (5788 points) and twelfth (5213 points) respectively in the decathlon.

He joins Springfield sprinter Steve Headley as the weekly award winners from the conference. Arredondo won two events to guide the Engineers to a second place finish in a tri-meet at Coast Guard with Springfield.
New London, CT --- Senior thrower Jarrett Arredondo won two events while Dan Duffty, Fran Collins, Jeff Baker and Shawn Wilhelm added event wins, leading Men's Track and Field to second place in a tri-meet with Springfield and Coast Guard on Saturday. Arredondo was victorious in the shot put and the hammer throw to help WPI to 118 points, while Springfield won with 172.
