BOSTON – The WPI Women's Track & Field Team accumulated five season-bests, including four lifetime bests, as the Engineers competed Friday night at the BU David Hemery Valentine Invitational Friday. The men are in action tomorrow.

Freshman Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA) handed in a personal indoor or outdoor best of 2:16.04 in the 800-meter run while junior Lea Strangio (Watertown, MA) posted a season-best 2:17.87. Both also won their respective heat. Junior Maggie LaRoche (Silverlake, NH) clocked her best time of the season with a 3:04.63 in the 1,000-meter run, while classmate Emily Newman (Easton, MA) and freshman Callie Schadt (Brewster, MA) ran their fastest miles of the campaign with times of 5:15.99 and 5:17.23, respectively.

Junior Sara Velleca (Woodbury, CT) had the best Engineer time in the 200-meter dash (26.15) as freshman Krystal Grant (Hampden, ME) and senior Elizabeth Walfield (Bath, ME) won their heats with times of 26.24 and 26.86. Senior Kimberlee Kocienski (Schaghticoke, NY) was second in her heat of the 400-meter dash (1:00.98) as was sophomore Cole Godzinski (North Reading, MA) in the 60-meter hurdles (9.63). Freshman Faye Gauthier (West Warwick, RI) was the lone field competitor and achieved a 48-9.50 on her only attempt which was good for 24th place in the weight throw.

"I thought we did well today with a number of season bests against tough competition," remarked assistant coach Miles Ketchum. "We're where we want to be."

The program will be split again this Friday and Saturday as the women head to MIT and the men travel to Tufts for the New England Division III Championships. In addition to the individuals below, the 4x800 and distance medley relay are slotted sixth and eighth on the DIII NE list.
