Packard Earns 800m Title as Women’s Track & Field Eighth at Division III New Englands

Cambridge, MA --- Sophomore Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA) won the 800-meter run to help lead WPI to an eighth-place showing at the Division III New England Championships Saturday at MIT.

MIT accumulated 161 points to win the team title as the Engineers claimed 30 points.

Packard handed in a time of 2:10.53 and was followed by senior Lea Strangio (Watertown, MA) with a season-low 2:13.67 to secure fifth. The duo went on to close out the completion by teaming with junior Katie Nugent (Huntington, CT) and senior Taylor Teed (Boxford, MA) for a fifth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:59.92.

Senior Abby McAdams (Montville, CT) finished sixth in the two-day heptathlon with a total of 3,849 points that included a victory in the shot put with a distance of 32-7.5. Senior Kirsten Herchenroder (Plaistow, NH) set a new career-best of 126-3 in Friday night's discus competition and sophomore Faye Gauthier (West Warwick, RI) was sixth in the hammer throw with a season-long 156-1.

Freshman Arden Tanner (Ventura, CA) secured seventh in the 100-meter dash with a season-best 12.39 while senior Jasmine Higuera Castillo (Riverside, CA) clocked an eighth-place 41:06.59 in the 10,000-meter run. Junior Carley Dykstra (Andover, NJ) was one of three to achieve a height of 3.25m but ended up 10th in the pole vault.

Select team members trek to Dartmouth this upcoming weekend for the All-New England Championships.
