2017-2018 marks the third season for Patrick Swanson as an Assistant Coach of the WPI Track & Field program. Swanson’s responsibilities include working with the jumps, combined events, and javelin.
During his first season, the 2015-2016 season, Swanson coached a multi-event athlete to a school record and both a male and female high jumper to the NEWMAC title.
A 2014 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Patrick competed in the heptathlon and decathlon, where he gained the fouth and fifth best marks in those events in UWEC history, respectively. Patrick also garnered two All-Conference honors as his time as an athlete at UWEC.
After graduating, Swanson coached at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for a year, where he coached 3 indoor school records, 2 outdoor school records, 4 NCAA qualifiers, a men’s national champion and runner up in the Indoor Heptathlon in 2015, and a men’s national champion and runner-up in the outdoor Decathlon in 2015. He also saw a woman All-American in the Heptathlon in Outdoor 2015. During his time coaching at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Swanson assisted the men’s team to win the NCAA National Championship in the 2015 Indoor season. In the Outdoor 2015 season, he aided in coaching the Men’s and Women’s Teams to NCAA Runner-up finishes.
