  • WPI Athletics Announces 2016-17 Department Award Winners

    Worcester, MA-- The WPI athletic department recently honored all of its 20 varsity teams which encompasses over 600 student-athletes at its annual awards banquet. During the festivities, 11 student-athletes were presented with major awards. These accolades highlight some of the best varsity student-athletes at WPI who excel both in the classroom and in their respective sports.

  • Werth Pockets NEWMAC Women's Volleyball All-Conference Accolades

    Boston, MA --- WPI senior Maddy Werth (Bedford, MA) was tabbed a NEWMAC Women’s Volleyball All-Conference Second Team selection, as voted upon by the league’s head coaches. Classmate Brianna Parent (Epping, NH) is the program’s representative on the inaugural NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
  • Bakhtyari Named to CoSIDA Academic All-District I Volleyball Team

    WORCESTER – WPI sophomore Azita Bakhtyari (Andover, MA) has garnered Academic All-District I status, as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members from Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont. She is now eligible for Academic All-America consideration.
  • 39 Fall WPI Student-Athletes Named NEWMAC Academic All-Conference

    Boston, MA --- Led by women’s soccer graduate student Jaime Espinola (Greensboro, NC), a rare four-time honoree, and seven three-time selections 39 WPI student-athletes were named NEWMAC Academic All-Conference for the fall season. The men’s and women’s soccer teams each delivered a WPI-best eight nods.
  • Volleyball Season Stalls in NEWMAC Quarterfinal at Springfield

    Springfield, MA --- Senior Jennifer Hurwitz (Longmeadow, MA) recorded a double-double for second-seeded Springfield as the host Pride earned a 3-1 (25-12, 23-25, 25-15, 25-19) win against seventh-seeded WPI in a NEWMAC Women’s Volleyball Championship Quarterfinal Tuesday night in Blake Arena.
  • Volleyball Closes out Regular Season Slate with 3-0 Victory at Mount Holyoke

    South Hadley, MA --- WPI bested Mount Holyoke College, 3-0 in the NEWMAC regular season volleyball finale on Saturday. With the win, the Engineers conclude the regular season with an overall record of 22-8 overall and 5-5 in the NEWMAC, while the Lyons end 5-17 overall and 0-10 in the conference.
  • Werth's Hot Hitting Highlights Volleyball's Triumph on Senior Night

    WORCESTER – Senior Maddy Werth (Bedford, MA) hit .444 and delivered 14 kills, while not committing an error in the final two sets, to help lead host WPI to a 3-0 (25-17, 25-21, 25-14) non-conference women’s volleyball triumph over Lasell Thursday night in Harrington Auditorium.
  • Regionally-Ranked City and Conference Foe Clark Cruises Past Volleyball on Pink Night

    WORCESTER – Junior Marina Ramos (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) notched a match-best 12 kills as Clark traveled down Park Ave. and earned a 3-0 (25-13, 25-22, 25-16) victory at WPI Tuesday night in Harrington Auditorium.
  • WPI Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match at Framingham State with Keene State
    October 22, 2016
    Framingham, MA --- Senior Maddy Werth totaled 23 kills and classmmate Shay Feeley amassed 39 assists as WPI went to Framingham State and swept a tri-match with the host Rams and Keene State on Saturday. With the wins, WPI moves to 20-7 on the season and reaches the 20-victory mark for the second straight season and eighth time in program history.
  • Werth’s Career-Night Sends Volleyball Past Brandeis in Five

    WORCESTER – Senior Maddy Werth (Bedford, MA) smashed a match and career-high 21 kills and hit at a .340 clip to key a 3-2 (25-15, 19-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-6) victory over visiting Brandeis in a Thursday night in a non-conference women’s volleyball matchup at Harrington Auditorium.
  • Volleyball Hangs Tough With Second-Place Springfield in Entertaining NEWMAC Clash

    WORCESTER – Reigning NEWMAC Defensive Player of the Week senior Lauren Holt (Granby, CT) led the all student-athletes with a .346 hitting percentage and 13 kills as Springfield defeated host WPI, 3-0 (28-26, 25-14, 25-23), Tuesday night in Harrington Auditorium.
  • Volleyball Falls to Trinity and Rhode Island College in Hartford Tri-Match

    Hartford, CT --- The WPI volleyball went on the road Saturday and dropped a pair of matches at a triangular at Trinity. The Engineers fell to the host Bantams 3-2 (21-25, 25-19, 27-25, 21-25, 15-13) before being defeated by Rhode Island College 3-1 (25-16, 17-25, 25-23, 26-24).
  • Volleyball Cruises Past Eastern Nazarene and Mass. Maritime on Homecoming

    WORCESTER – Sophomore Casey Hunt (Granby, CT), junior Kat Hurlock (Burlington, CT) and freshman Abbie Gilbert (Hopkinton, MA) all hit over .500 in the first contest of the day as the WPI volleyball team swept a tri-match with Eastern Nazarene and Mass Maritime by 3-0 decisions Saturday in Harrington Auditorium.
  • Feeley, Bakhtyari, Hunt and Werth Lift Volleyball to NEWMAC Road Triumph at Smith

    Northampton, MA --- Setters Shay Feeley and Azita Bakhtyari combined for 30 assists and Casey Hunt and Maddy Werth each belted eight kills the WPI volleyball team went on the road Thursday and defeated host Smith 3-0. The host Engineers took the match by set scores of 25-11, 25-23 and 25-20.

    WORCESTER – Senior Maddy Werth (Bedford, MA) tied her career-high of 18 kills, hit .429, added 11 digs, and was instrumental in forcing the fifth set as WPI rallied past Salve Regina, 3-2 (19-25, 25-21, 19-25, 28-26, 15-13), Thursday night in a non-conference women’s volleyball matchup inside Harrington Auditorium.
  • Kaczowka and Mullins Spark Volleyball's Team Effort in Victory at Newbury

    Boston, MA --- An array of attacks and kills by the WPI Engineers, led by junior Ann Kaczowka with eight kills and freshman Colleen Mullins with seven kills, prevented the Nighthawks from making it four straight victories, as they fell to the WPI Engineers 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-21) on Wednesday night at The Winsor School in Boston.
  • Volleyball’s Tomerlin Notches 1,000th Career Dig in Home Tri-Match

    WORCESTER – The WPI women's volleyball team dropped Saturday afternoon's tri-match against Wellesley (3-1) and non-conference Rivier (3-0). Senior libero Cassandra Tomerlin (La Quinta, CA) registered her 1,000th career dig including a team-high 16 against Wellesley in the first match of the day.
  • Volleyball Sinks Coast Guard For Second Time in Program History and First Since 1998

    New London, CT --- Sophomore Casey Hunt (Granby, CT) had a match and season-high 19 kills to go with 18 digs leading WPI to its fourth straight win, a 3-2 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) victory over host Coast Guard Thursday night. Freshman Sandra Duarte’s (Valenica, CA) kill secured the victory for the Engineers.
  • Bakhtyari, Volleyball Knock Off Emerson in NEWMAC Contest

    WORCESTER – Sophomore Azita Bakhtyari (Andover, MA) totaled 22 assists and 16 digs and made a pair of spectacular plays toward the end of the match as WPI tamed Emerson, 3-1, in a NEWMAC volleyball matchup Tuesday night at Harrington Auditorium. The Engineers bookended the match with a pair of 25-17 sets while Emerson took the second (25-20) and the hosts claimed the third 25-23.
  • Hunt, Bakhtyari and Feeley Post Double-Doubles in Volleyball Road Sweep

    Norton, MA --- Sophomore Casey Hunt (Granby, CT), sophomore Azita Bakhtyari (Andover, MA) and senior Shay Feeley (Franklin, MA) each handed in a double-double against Wheaton as the WPI volleyball team defeated the Lyons, 3-2, and Bridgewater State, 3-0, Saturday.
  • Volleyball Knocked From the Ranks of Unbeaten by MIT in NEWMAC Opener

    Cambridge, MA --- Megan Gebhard and Abby Bertics both tallied 13 kills as host MIT defeated previously undefeated WPI 3-0 in the NEWMAC opener for both squads on Tuesday evening. The homestanding Engineers took the match by scores of 25-17, 25-19, 25-18.
  • Volleyball Sweeps Tri-Match to Remain Unbeaten in 2016, Sports & Recreation Center

    WORCESTER – The WPI volleyball team defeated Wentworth Institute of Technology and Mount Ida by identical 3-1 scores Saturday to remain unbeaten on the season and in the Sports & Recreation Center. The Engineers topped Wentworth in the eye-opener 25-14, 20-25, 25-19, 25-21 and the Mustangs in the closer 25-17, 20-25, 25-13, 25-17. The middle match saw the Leopards blank Mount Ida 3-0 (25-21, 25-19, 26-24).

    BOSTON, Mass. – Following an impressive 2015 season for NEWMAC volleyball, Springfield has been tabbed as the preseason favorites under the leadership of 2015 AVCA DIII New England Coach of the Year Moira Long. Last year the NEWMAC saw an impressive, three institutions earn a place in the NCAA Championship including the Pride who advanced to their NCAA Regional Final.
