Women’s Cross Country Ties Program Record With 10th-Place Finish at D3 New Englands

Gorham, ME --- Sophomore Sydney Packard (Georgetown, MA) posted an All-Region performance to lead WPI to a program-best 10th-place finish at the NCAA Division III New England Championships hosted by Southern Maine at the Gorham Country Club on Saturday. The team placing matches the 10th-place, 341 point effort in 1989.

MIT (58) and Tufts (92) earn automatic bids to the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships while Packard's 23rd-place (21:55.8) finish could garner an individual bid. She would go if Amherst is selected as a team. WPI, the 31st-ranked team accumulated 311 points. Selections will be announced tomorrow afternoon.

Freshman Keely Nistler (Vadnais Heights, MN), sophomore Ariana Rozen (Carver, MA) and senior Lea Strangio (Watertown, MA) were 7.2 seconds apart in 65th (22:46.4), 68th (22:51.6) and 69th (22:53.6).

Senior Emily Newman (Easton, MA) was 91st in a time of 23:14.5. Sophomore Callie Schadt (Brewster, MA) crossed the finish line in 23:47.7 and junior Carly Neeld (Williston, VT) in 24:17.2.
