WORCESTER -- WPI Director of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics Dana L. Harmon and Assistant Athletic Director of Operations Wendy Walsh announced recently that Ishita Tibrewal has joined the department as the Event Management and Sports Promotion Coordinator. The two-year position is funded in part by the NCAA Division III Ethnic Minorities and Women's Internship Grant.
"I am looking forward to working with Ishita over the next two years," said Walsh. "Her energy, enthusiasm and creativity will contribute to her success here at WPI."
Tibrewal was actively involved with SAAC as a student-athlete at Mount Holyoke. As vice chair, she served as the liaison between the athletic teams and the legislation and admission sub-committees. She was a four-year starter in singles and doubles on the Lyons tennis team and served as captain her senior season. During her four years, Tibrewal held various leadership positions at her alma mater including serving as a community advisor and a peer career advisor. She also worked as a sports communications student assistant for four years.
"I am thrilled to be joining the WPI Athletics Community," remarked Tibrewal. "I would like to thank Dana, Wendy, Rusty [Eggen] and the other members of the search committee for giving me such a wonderful opportunity. I am very excited to use the experience I gained from my internships and four years at Mount Holyoke to make an impact in the WPI Athletics Department."
During the summer of 2017, Tibrewal interned with the Professional Tennis department of the United States Tennis Association. As a Pro Tennis/Player Relations intern, she worked as a part of the US Open tournament director's team and also helped enhance the player experience. She was also a part of the tournament management team of the 2016 International Tennis Hall of Fame Championship and Star Sport's events management team for the Kolkata leg of the 2015 Pro Kabaddi League.
Tibrewal was a three-letter high school varsity athlete and ranked #30 in Girls U-18 Tennis in India. She graduated magna cum laude in May 2018 from Mount Holyoke with a double major in economics and sports management.
