Seven Fall Student-Athletes Named to NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship Teams

Westwood, MA --- WPI seniors Larry Cafaro (Ansonia, CT), Steffany Halfrey (Hubbardston, MA), Mark Landergan (Newburyport, MA) and Sierra 'Knox' Palmer (Knoxville, TN) have been named to their respective NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship teams. Juniors Luke Lindholm (Sterling, MA) and Colleen Mullins (Andover, MA), as well as, sophomore Jackie Cardin (Manchester, NH) were also recognized.

Cafaro represented the football team while Halfrey and Landergan were the cross country honorees, and Palmer was the women's soccer selection. Lindholm was the men's soccer pick and Mullins claimed the volleyball nod. Cardin took home the field hockey citation.

While he may not always be able to personally contribute to the team's success some days, he is always making sure he is pumping up those that can."

Women's Soccer head coach Steph Riley-Schafer on Sierra 'Knox' Palmer - "At home games, Sierra was often tasked with meeting the visiting teams and showing them to their locker room. She greeted them with a friendly, welcoming disposition. Throughout the game she helped to meet the needs of officials and opposing players and coaches. She respected every opponent in both her interaction with team and when discussing tactics and game plans with our players. Sierra has always represented our program and her role our on team with integrity."

Men's Soccer head coach Brian Kelley on Luke Lindholm – "Luke is not only the consummate teammate and competitor he also is the standard and embodiment of sportsmanship. Luke's qualities also raise the expectations and actions of his teammates, coaches and opponents!"

Women's Volleyball head coach Greg Poole on Colleen Mullins - "Colleen is always positive, always working as hard as she can, and always wants to make her teammates feel comfortable. She leads by example and always represents our team, athletic department and school in the very best possible way. She is an incredible leader who should be an example to ALL student-athletes."

Field Hockey head coach Lisa Moreau on Jackie Cardin - "Jackie was a calming influence for our team. She consistently remains calm under pressure, and when things were about to get out of hand she would be the one to keep everyone focused. She's always a good sport and quick to complement her teammates and opponents."

Now in its third year, the NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship team is intended to recognize one student-athlete from each team, in every sport that best demonstrates the ideals of the NEWMAC and its Code of Conduct, regardless of his/her overall performance or statistics for the season.
