WORCESTER -- The dedication ceremony of the renovated Harrington Auditorium lobby took place recently during Homecoming Weekend. The lobby has an updated look that includes a new home for the WPI Varsity Athletics Hall of Fame as well as a searchable database and touchscreen TV. This new database and touchscreen TV allows users to search photos from throughout WPI Athletics history that were previously displayed in Alumni Gym with features on WPI hall of famers and other top moments in program history.
"Having the Harrington Auditorium Lobby renovated as the home of WPI Athletics is a dream come true," says Dana L. Harmon, director of physical education, recreation and athletics. "This space now reflects the Engineering Excellence that we strive for every day. Additionally, we have longed to showcase our hall of fame members and with the generosity of our alumni donors, we now have an official Hall of Fame that is interactive in telling the stories of our WPI athletic greats."
The Hall of Fame wall was designed by Enhance A Colour of Danbury, CT while the searchable database and visual was created by Fuel 180 of Fairfield, NJ.
The project was made possible by the generous donations from alumnus Joseph D. Bronzino '59 as well as H. Carr & Sons which employs numerous WPI graduates.
"It is important to make the accomplishments of WPI' s student-athletes live on," remarked Bronzino.
"Alumni donations are crucial to the everyday success of our athletic program. From helping make the student-athlete experience better to providing the spaces that can showcase our past and present, to helping attract top quality student-athletes in our future, alumni support is vital to the work we do every day" said Harmon.
