|Title:||Class of 1990|
Peter J. Sifferlen, you left a mark on WPI athletics that will long be remembered. You set high standards for yourself and your teammates, and you turned in brilliant performances on the track and field that live on in the memories of those fortunate enough to have seen you in action.
Always a leader, you were instrumental in the success of the men's track team, which posted a 21-7 record during your three years of participation. In 1982 you placed 12th in the hammer throw at the Division II NCAA track championships in Chicago. You set new WPI records in the pentathlon and the decathlon in 1983; your decathlon mark stills stands today. At the NCAA national championships that year, you placed fourth-this outstanding performance earned you All-America status. That same year you became the New England Division III discus champion.
In your senior year you continued your winning ways, capturing second-place honors in the hammer throw at NCAA championships and placing first in the hammer at the New England Division III championships. And, for the second year in a row, you walked away with All-America honors.
Peter J. Sifferlen, it is with great pride that we recognize your admirable contributions to WPI athletics by inducting you tonight into the WPI Athletic Hall of Fame.
