Michael Carbone, you were truly one of the greatest running backs and track sprinters that WPI has ever seen. Your record-setting accomplishments on the track and football field are testimonials to your strength, endurance and dedication.
A four-time All-New England sprinter, you were an instrumental leg in the 4x100 relay team that set a school record of 42.98 seconds in 1985.
A tailback on the football team, you became WPI's first 2,000-yard career rusher, finishing your WPI gridiron years with a total of 2,026 yards. You were a member of the 1983 squad that finished 8-0 and ranked as high as 13th in the nation (third in the preseason poll). Foryour running accomplishments, you were awarded the prestigious Gold Helmet award in 1983, honoring you as New England's player of the year. You were a first-team All-New England selection that year and garnered WPI's Robert W. Pritchard Award.
Your national honors include twice being named an honorable mention All-American. You were a member of the Phi Kappa Theta fraternity.
