BOSTON -- WPI senior caption Nick Comei (Haverhill, MA) has been chosen as the NEWMAC Baseball Player of the Week. Babson's Teddy Carey (Upton, MA) drew recognition as the conference's Pitcher of the Week as the NEWMAC announced its weekly awards on Monday. Comei was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week Tuesday.
Comei had an outstanding week in the Engineers final eight games on Spring Break in Central Florida, hitting .563 with a home run, two doubles, two walks, a sacrifice bunt, four stolen bases and 11 RBI. He also posted a slugging percentage of .719 and an OPS of 1.319. The senior, who enjoyed a five-game multi-hit streak, had three in each game versus Muskingum and totaled five against New England College, as well as three in game one versus Husson and the finale with Ohio Northern. Defensively, Comei only made one error in 44 chances and was part of seven double plays.
Weather permitting, WPI is slated to face Brandeis Wednesday in Waltham.
