Westwood, MA --- For the third consecutive year WPI finished second in the Men’s NEWMAC Presidents Cup standings while the women placed third, as announced at the conference's annual meetings by WPI President Laurie Leshin along with NEWMAC President and WPI Director of Physical Education, Recreation and Athletics Dana L. Harmon.
WORCESTER – The WPI athletic department recently honored all of its 20 varsity teams which encompasses over 600 student-athletes at its annual awards banquet. During the festivities, 11 student-athletes were presented with major awards. These accolades highlight some of the best varsity student-athletes at WPI who excel both in the classroom and in their respective sports.
WORCESTER -- Junior Ryan Tropeano (Pembroke, MA) has been named second team All-New England by the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association (NEIBA) and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). It is the second straight all-region nod for the outfielder as he was honored as a first team selection following the 2017 campaign.
Westwood, MA --- Five WPI spring student-athletes were named to the second-annual NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship Team, as announced as part of the league's postseason award program.
Westwood, MA --- Junior Ryan Tropeano (Pembroke, MA) and sophomore Tyrone Patterson (Upper Marlboro, MD) were selected as NEWMAC Baseball All-Conference second team honorees following the 2018 campaign. Senior Evan Lacroix (Methuen, MA), meanwhile, was named as the Engineers representative on the NEWMAC All-Sportsmanship team.
Leicester, MA --- Ryan Tropeano and Steven Gallagher combined for six hits as WPI baseball wrapped up its 2018 campaign with a 14-12 non-conference victory at Becker on Thursday afternoon. The Engineers saw their season end with a 13-22 mark while Becker, who can still qualify for NECC Tournament after a three-game weekend series with Dean, is now 9-23. The game saw some WPI history as senior starting pitcher Steven D'Agostino notched his first career hit in the second inning and Matt Howard delivered his 100th career hit with a double in the eighth.
Westwood, MA --- Led by eight three-time honorees, 60 spring student-athletes represented WPI on their respective NEWMAC Academic All-Conference teams.
Northboro, MA --- Junior Tyler Weiss (Monroe, CT) struck out a career-high 12 batters, including six looking, and six different Engineers clubbed an extra base hit as WPI held off New England College, 6-5, Monday at the New England Baseball Complex.
Northboro, MA --- Junior outfielder Josh Herlands continued his torrid April, but a combined 4 for 6 days with 3 RBI, two doubles and two runs scored wasn't enough to power the WPI offense past Springfield College as the Pride swept the Engineers, 9-4 and 9-8 in a doubleheader on Saturday at the New England Baseball Complex.
Providence, RI --- Junior Tim Lombardi (Providence, RI) batted 3-for-5 with two doubles, a triple, four RBI and two runs scored as Johnson & Wales defeated WPI, 12-6, Wednesday in a non-conference baseball game.
Norton, MA --- Senior Matt Cook (Harwich, MA) batted 3-for-5 with a triple, three RBI and a run scored to lead Wheaton to an 8-1 triumph over WPI in a NEWMAC Baseball contest Tuesday afternoon at Sidell Stadium.
New London, CT --- Coast Guard scored six runs in the eighth inning of the opener and sophomore Brett Sullivan (Granby, MA) fired his first career shutout in the nightcap as the Bears swept a NEWMAC doubleheader from WPI 7-2 and 4-0.
Northboro, MA --- Junior Ryan Tropeano (Pembroke, MA) batted 4-for-4 and drove in a pair as part of a five-run seventh inning that separated WPI and Coast Guard in the Engineers 11-9 NEWMAC triumph Friday at the New England Baseball Complex.
Northboro, MA --- Junior Wily Boyd (Orleans, MA) batted 2-for-5 with a three-run homer as Wheaton defeated host WPI, 10-6, Tuesday in a single NEWMAC contest at the New England Baseball Complex.
WORCESTER – Senior Teddy Downing (Cambridge, MA) batted 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored and junior Dan Shaw (Arlington, MA) struck out four in a complete-game effort as Clark completed a NEWMAC West Baseball weekend sweep of WPI Sunday with an 8-3 triumph at Granger Field.
WORCESTER -- Clark senior Teddy Downing’s (Cambridge, MA) sacrifice fly was the difference in game one and the Cougars held off WPI in game two in a NEWMAC Baseball West Division doubleheader Saturday. The opener was a 3-2 ballgame while the second was 18-14.
Babson Park, MA --- It may have been frigid and windy outside on Thursday afternoon but the Babson bats were on fire as the host Beavers defeated WPI in NEWMAC baseball contest 26-1. With the result, Babson is now 13-7 on the season and 4-2 in conference play while the Engineers slip to 10-11 overall and 2-4 against NEWMAC foes.
Westwood, MA --- WPI senior Steven D’Agostino (Worcester, MA) has been selected as the NEWMAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week. Teammate Doug Rives (Bethany, CT) took home the award 364 days ago.
Northboro, MA --- WPI accumulated 33 runs on 43 hits in a doubleheader sweep of Emerson that included a combined 31 runs and 37 hits in the second game Saturday at the New England Baseball Complex. The Engineers took the first game 12-2 and the second 21-10.

WPI junior Ryan Tropeano (Pembroke, MA) recorded his 100th career hit with a single in the ninth.
Northboro, MA --- Senior Garrett Greenwood (Edmond, OK) struck out five and put MIT on the board with a home run and sophomore Trey Roberts (Cedar Park, TX) drove in three of the Engineers five runs in the fifth of game one, and sophomore Thomas Allison (Kingwood, TX) homered twice in game two as MIT swept a NEWMAC crossover doubleheader from host WPI Saturday at the New England Baseball Complex. Cambridge’s Engineers (4-3) won the opener 8-5 and nightcap 11-3.
Northboro, MA --- Senior Travis Benoit (Worcester, MA) batted 4-for-5 with a double, three RBI and a run scored while Gordon scored eight in the fourth en route to a 10-7 win over host WPI Thursday at the New England Baseball Complex.
Northboro, MA --- Sophomore Christian Naccari (Ossining, NY) laced a two-run single to right in the top of the ninth as Nichols edged host WPI, 10-8, Tuesday at the New England Baseball Complex.
