Westwood, MA --- WPI sophomore David Larson (Port Tobacco, MD) has been named as the NEWMAC Baseball Athlete of the Week. Wheaton junior Tommy Larason (Norwell, MA) was tabbed as the NEWMAC Pitcher of the Week.
Larson batted .355 with 15 RBI, 10 extra base hits, 10 runs scored, and five home runs while producing a .939 fielding percentage in addition to claiming a win on the mound during the Engineers first week of action. The sophomore was 3-for-5 with a walk, double, home run, two RBI and three runs scored while scattering four hits and striking out three over 6 1/3 to earn the win versus Gwynedd Mercy. He also had a pair of hits in the nightcaps versus Coe and Rhode Island College and cleared the fence in both games on March 6 (Gwynedd Mercy, DeSales) and again on March 7 (RIC). His final home run was in the finale against St. Joseph's (ME).
Baseball (5-5) is now scheduled to open its home slate, at the New England Baseball Complex, Thursday at 3:30pm versus Brandeis.
