Westwood, MA --- WPI junior David Larson (Port Tobacco, MD) has been selected as the NEWMAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week. The junior was named as the NEWMAC Baseball Co-Athlete of the Week earlier this season.
Larson yielded one run on seven hits and two walks and struck out seven in the first 10 innings of the 18-inning 2-1 triumph over Springfield to help the Engineers secure the NEWMAC West title for the fourth time in five years.
Oddly enough, closer Dominic Fusco (North Haven, CT), a solid nominee in his own right, did not allow a run on six hits and two walks and struck out eight in the final eight innings in relief of Larson on Saturday, took home what had been the program's most recent NEWMAC Pitcher of the Week honor the same week Larson was lauded in mid-March.
Clark sophomore Chris Radovic (Fairfield, CT) was named as the latest NEWMAC Baseball Athlete of the Week.
Second-seeded WPI (22-14) hosts third-seeded, and nationally-ranked, Babson (28-5) Friday for a NEWMAC tournament contest beginning at 3:30pm at the New England Baseball Complex.
