WORCESTER – WPI junior David Larson (Port Tobacco, MD) was named as a second team All-America by D3baseball.com. He is the third WPI honoree since the awards program began in 2007 and the first honoree since Alex Venditti in 2016. WPI Hall of Fame pitcher Conor Fahey collected accolades in 2009.
With only the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship Series to be played between Chapman and Birmingham Southern, Larson is 10th in slugging percentage (.768), 11th in home runs per game (0.32) and doubles per game (0.50) while ranking 16th in home runs (12) and 19th in doubles (19).
On the mound, the junior led the NEWMAC with 68 strikeouts and third in wins (6) on the season. After going 10 innings in a critical 18-inning victory at Springfield on the final day of the regular season, Larson struck out 11 in the Engineers NEWMAC tournament opening win versus Babson, who went on to finish fifth at the NCAA Championship.
The NEWMAC West Division champions posted a 23-16 record overall and 8-9 versus all conference teams.
