Worcester, MA --- The WPI Football Alumni Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday, June 6 at the Pine Ridge Country Club in North Oxford, MA at 1pm. The event will be a shot-gun start featuring prizes, raffles, and a dinner in the evening. Registration begins at 12:30pm.
As a new feature to the WPI Athletics website, WPI alumnus and current Sports Information assistant Ray Cotrufo '98 will take you Inside the Game, providing a closer look at Engineer athletics and some of the student-athletes, faculty and staff that make it all happen. This edition of Inside the Game takes us for a look at one member of the WPI Football team who is accomplishing great things off the field.

Centerville, MA --- Senior defensive back Andrew Sides was named today to the ECAC 2008 Division III Northwest Football All-Star Team. Sides was one of nine players named to the team from Liberty League schools and was the only member of the Engineers selected. The safety placed 10th in the Liberty League with 76 tackles and 5th with 11 passes defended.

Sides was one of 28 players named to the team and was the only member of the Engineers selected. The safety placed 10th in the Liberty League with 76 tackles, while his 11 passes defended were ranked fifth in the conference.
Worcester, MA --- Senior defensive back Andrew Sides and senior quarterback Justin Wells led 10 Engineers selected to the 18th Annual All-Star Team as voted on by the 2008 Worcester Area Football Association. Sides, R.C. Grady, Justin Pollard and Stan St. Juste were first-team selections from WPI.
Worcester, MA --- Eight members of the WPI Football team were named to the Liberty League All-Academic Team this week, as the Engineers improved on their 2007 season both on the field and in the classroom. Five Engineers received this distinction in 2007.

Worcester, MA --- WPI football student-athletes Jonathan Shoemaker and Aaron Champagne have been selected to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I team by the College Sports Information Directors of America (Co-SIDA). Both picked up first team honors and will now advance to the national ballot.
Canton, MA --- Quarterback Justin Wells threw for a touchdown and ran for another score to help lift WPI to a 21-20 road win over St. Lawrence in Liberty League football action on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Engineers finish the season 7-3 overall and 4-3 in conference play. The seven wins are the most for WPI since the Crimson and Gray ended the 1992 campaign with nine victories.
Worcester, MA --- The Susquehanna football team scored 30 unanswered points to close out the first half en route to a resounding 51-21 road win over WPI in Liberty League football action on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Crusaders improve to 4-5 overall while the Engineers fall to 6-3 on the season. Both squads are now 3-3 in conference play.
Geneva, NY --- Hobart College junior wide receiver Tyler Vincent caught three touchdowns passes from senior quarterback Rich Doyle to lead the Statesmen to a 31-14 victory over WPI. Hobart played a near perfect first half, charging out to a 24-0 lead, while shutting out the Engineers through the first three quarters, to secure its 12th consecutive winning season.
Worcester, MA --- WPI senior defensive back Andrew Sides has been selected Liberty League Football Co-Defensive Performer of the Week. Sides shares the honor with Rensselaer defensive back Joe Albano. Sides amassed 10 tackles to help lead WPI to a 21-14 victory over Rochester. The senior also registered a sack, an additional tackle for loss and a pair of pass breakups.
Worcester, MA --- Stefan Nicotra notched a career-best 14 tackles and quarterback Justin Wells ran and threw for a touchdown to help WPI defeat visiting Rochester 21-14 in Liberty League football action on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Engineers improve to 6-1 overall and 3-1 in conference play while the Yellowjackets slip to 2-5 on the season and 2-3 in Liberty League play.
Worcester, MA --- WPI used a dominating defensive performance to improve to 5-1 on the season and 2-1 in Liberty League action with a 23-10 road victory over the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Saturday evening. The Engineers held the Mariners -16 yards rushing and had possession of the football for over 43 minutes.
Canton, NY --- WPI senior quaterback Justin Wells has been named Liberty League Football Player of the Week. Wells, a native of Jay, ME, played a key role in WPI's hard-fought 19-16 homecoming victory over Union. His two-yard touchdown pass with 5:58 left in the game gave the Engineers a lead they would not relinquish as they defeated the Dutchmen for the first time since 1999.

WPI, who defeated the Dutchmen for the first time since 1999, improves to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Troy, NY --- The WPI football team was able to rally from an early 14-0 hole but could not overcome a 21-point deficit later in the game as they fell 35-21 to host Rensselaer in Liberty League football action on Saturday afternoon. WPI is now 3-1 on the year and 0-1 in conference play while RPI improves to 3-0 overall and 1-0 in the Liberty League. With the victory, RPI claims the Transit Trophy for the 12th straight year and 20th time in 29 games.
Worcester, MA --- WPI football tri-captain Matt Boudreau is scheduled to appear tonight (Wednesday) as a guest on the debut of "In the HuddLLe", an internet radio show that will be dedicated to reviewing and previewing Liberty League football action each week. The show, which typically will air on Sunday's at 7pm, will be hosted by Eric Ren and Frank Rossi.

With the win, WPI improves to 3-0 for the second straight year while the Becker dips to 2-1. The WPI defense was the story of the first half as they forced four punts and two turnovers in the first 30 minutes.

With the result, WPI improves to 2-0 while the Lancers slip to 0-2 on the season.
Worcester, MA --- A trio of WPI football players earned Liberty League Player of the Week honors after WPI's thrilling 34-28 five overtime road win at UMass-Dartmouth this past weekend. Justin Wells was named Offensive Player of the Week, Stefan Nicotra earned Co-Defensive Player of the Week accolades and Mike Egan took home Special Teams and Rookie of the Week honors.
North Dartmouth, MA --- Justin Wells (Jay, ME) scored on a quarterback keeper from two yards out in the fifth overtime to help WPI defeat host UMass Dartmouth 34-28 in the longest game in the 119-year history of WPI football. The game, originally scheduled for Saturday night, was moved up a night due to the forecasted impact of Tropical Storm Hanna.
Worcester, MA --- The threat of Tropical Storm Hanna has forced WPI's opening football game at UMass Dartmouth to be shifted from Saturday evening to Friday evening. Start time will remain 7pm. Updates on the Women's Soccer home match with Salem State and Field Hockey's road game at Lasell will be announced during the day Friday or Saturday morning.
