Football's Eckler, Bursey and Lamb Recognized by the Liberty League

Dan Eckler and Blaine Bursey

Troy, NY --- Seniors Dan Eckler (Stoughton, MA) and Blaine Bursey (Middleburg, FL) took home Liberty League football weekly honors for their contributions Friday night versus Worcester State. Eckler was named the offensive performer of the week as Bursey repeated as special teams performer of the week. Senior Jason Lamb (Plymouth, MA) was placed on the honor roll.

Eckler was efficient in the first five drives of the game, passing for three touchdowns and running one in himself for the 28-0 advantage. He totaled 142 yards on 9-of-10 passing and rushed for 29 more on five carries before yielding to Blake Rice with 6:11 to go in the first half.

Bursey accounted for 10 of the Engineers 41 points Friday night against Worcester State. He converted all four PATs and was successful from 35 and 36 yards in the second half. Bursey also averaged 60.8 yards per kickoff for a total of 486 yards and one touchback.

Lamb hauled in a pair of picks to go with a pair of tackles and a pass breakup. He returned his first interception 53 yards for the final touchdown of the night while his second sealed the win with just over three minutes to play.

Hobart sophomore AJ McFarlane (Surrey, British Columbia) and St. Lawrence junior Chris Ryan (Concord, MA) earned co-defensive performer of the week accolades while Statesman freshman Isaiah Hill (Trenton, NJ) was tabbed as the rookie of the week.

WPI (2-0) closes out non-conference play Saturday with a trip to Norwich. Kickoff is slated for 2pm.
