Troy, NY --- Led by four-time honoree Vinny Tavernelli (Plymouth, MA), 20 WPI student-athletes were named to the Liberty League Football All-Academic Team.
The Engineers racked up 174 selections under seventh-year head coach Chris Robertson. During that time, WPI has boasted the most honorees five times, including 30 in 2012 and again in 2013. Overall, the Crimson and Gray have touted 209 during their tenure in the Liberty League.
Seniors Paul DePlacido (Billerica, MA), Chad DellaPorta (Billerica, MA). Andrew Dunne (Westford, MA), Kevin Lynch (East Bridgewater, MA) and Will Pope (Middlebury, CT) earned the accolade for the third time. Tavernelli, Lynch and Pope were also recently named Academic All-District I, as selected by CoSIDA.
Juniors Justin Coppolino (Oakham, MA), Aaron Hartford (Norwell, MA), Conor Hoey (Holyoke, MA), Dereck Pacheco (Barnstable, MA), Blake Rice (North Branford, CT) and Nabeel Tokatli (Worcester, MA) all took home their second honor. Making the list for the first time is junior Anthony Wilkens (Montville, CT) along with sophomores Tristin Carlton (Coventry, RI), Luca Cerasani (Abington, MA), Nick Day (Northampton, MA), Joe DePaolo-Boisvert (Southington, CT), Sam Malafronte (Abington, MA), Tyler Rauch (Jackson, NJ) and Collin Saunders (Westwood, NJ).
Student-athletes with a full year in residence at their institution who carry a 3.3 cumulative grade point average into a season of competition qualify for the Liberty League All-Academic Teams.
