Westwood, MA --- WPI's Connor Field (Granby, CT), Sam Casey (Winchester, MA) and Bryce Wade (Modesto, CA) have swept the NEWMAC Football weekly awards for their efforts in a 35-21 win at Springfield on Saturday. Field was named as the offensive athlete of the week, Casey was lauded as the defensive athlete of the week, and Wade was feted as the special teams athlete of the week.
Field ran for 116 yards on 30 carries with two touchdowns while Casey rolled up 10 tackles (seven solo) with one for loss and added a 46-yard interception return. Wade, meanwhile, converted all five PAT opportunities while punting four times for an average of 42 yards with a long of 55 and three landing inside the 20, and averaged 61.2 yards per kickoff.
It is the second time in program history the Engineers have taken home all three awards for the same game. It is also the second time Wade has been honored in three weeks and is the second weekly award for Field who was a Liberty League Rookie of the Week in 2016.
WPI, ranked first in the Grinold Chapter New England Division III Top 10, is now 4-0 for the eighth time in the program's 130-year history and just the second time in 36 seasons. The victory over the Pride is just the third all-time in the 36-game series for Engineers.
The Crimson and Gray host Maine Maritime Saturday at 1pm as part of Homecoming Weekend.
