Westwood, MA --- For the third time this season, and second time in as many weeks, WPI's Bryce Wade (Modesto, CA) has been honored as the NEWMAC Football Special Teams Athlete of the Week while Sean McAllen (Prospect, CT) was lauded as the NEWMAC Football Offensive Athlete of the Week for the second time in three reporting periods.
Wade connected on all six field goal attempts and drilled a career-best 38-yard field goal in Saturday's 51-20 NEWMAC victory over Maine Maritime. He also averaged 58 yards on nine kickoffs with a touchback, and was able to take the day off from punting duties.
McAllen, the 2019 Robert Pritchard Award offensive honoree, ran for 183 yards and three touchdowns in the first half of Saturday's contest. The Homecoming crowd also saw McAllen become just the third WPI rusher to eclipse 3,000 career rushing yards, and catapult two spots to third all-time with 3,043 yards.
The Crimson and Gray, the top team in the in the latest Grinold Chapter New England Division III Top 10 and Noontime Sports Top 20, move to 5-0 on the season and 2-0 in conference play and join the undefeated 1938, 1954 and 1983 squads as the only teams in the program's 130-year history to tout a 5-0 mark. The Engineers are also receiving votes in the AFCA and D3football.com national coaches polls.
Coast Guard's Eugene Bizer and Merchant Marine's Colton Ray shared this week's defensive laurels.
After a bye week for final exams, WPI heads to Washington D.C. for a noon kickoff on Saturday, October 19th at Catholic.
