WORCESTER – WPI's Bryce Wade (Modesto, CA) has been named as one of 37 place-kickers on the Fred Mitchell Award watch list for the month of September. It is the fourth time in five seasons an Engineer has made the scroll for the initial month of the campaign.
Wade has been previously recognized as the NEWMAC Special Teams Athlete of the Week three times in 2019, highlighted by scoring all the points in a 6-3 upset of nationally-ranked and 2018 NCAA Division III Quarterfinalist RPI. His counterpart from Troy, Sanjay Krishnan (Rockville, MD) also made the cut.
In all, Wade has converted all 27 PAT attempts and is 6-for-8 in field goals with a career-best 38 yarder versus Maine Maritime. Wade has also boomed 22 punts for an average of a NEWMAC-best 37.3 yards with a long of 58, including 10 inside the 20, two fair catches and a touchback. The mechanical engineering major is also a part of WPI Football's partnership with a child from Team IMPACT.
The lone New England Division III representative is joined by fellow Massachusetts representatives Jake McIntyre (Orlando, FL) of Division I FCS Harvard and Matt Haite (Pembroke, MA) of Division II Stonehill. Hobart's Kyle Hackett (Charlton, MA) also made the list, as well as fellow Californian's Max O'Rourke (Rocklin) from UC Davis and Alex Raya (Jamul) from Redlands.
Selection Committee Chairman Rob Perry lauds the September nominees as "A fine continuation of the character that drives the sport of football. While it's easy to see just one player, we know that it requires many teammates to be successful."
