Scott Sperone enters his second year at WPI as defensive coordinator.

His first season was a rousing success as the Engineers finished second in the highly competitive NEWMAC in both total defense and scoring defense.  He guided a unit that pitched three shutouts and allowed no more than 10 points in three other contests.  Sperone recently spent six seasons as the defensive coordinator at Farleigh Dickinson Florham. Prior to FDU-Florham, Sperone spent time at Merrimack, Brown, Williams, Stonehill and his alma mater Springfield, where he earned his undergraduate and master’s degrees. He also has his K-12 teacher’s certification. In addition to teaching on the gridiron, Sperone puts his skills to use as a PE instructor.

While at Merrimack, Sperone guided the defense for the 2009 Northeast 10 champion team. He also coached three All-Americans, Andrew Jackson (2008), Sean Loiseau (2010) and Tony Johnson (2010). He was on the other side of the ball for two seasons at Brown, leading the running backs and calling the plays for the JV offense, and a year as the wide receivers coach and video coordinator at Williams. Sperone also served as a defensive intern for the 2001 season at King's College.

The safety donned maroon and gray for 1998 Freedom Football Conference champion and NCAA tournament participant along with All-American center John Cena.
