WORCESTER – Senior Izzy Garver (Owls Head, ME) was the offensive difference as WPI defeated Simmons Tuesday night in a non-conference field hockey contest at Alumni Field.

Garver knocked home her own rebound following a scrum in front of the cage at 56:40. Junior goalkeeper Karen Mushrall (Mariaville, ME), meanwhile, stopped all three shots on-goal by the Sharks.

The Engineers enjoyed an 18-3 margin in shots and 15-3 on-goal. Freshman Kaitlyn Hess (Milford, NH) and Garver each registered a trio of shots on-goal followed by a pair by sophomores Shannon Hynes (Auburn, MA) and Bridget Sullivan (Wilmington, MA), and senior Amanda Richards (Wilmington, MA).

Senior Sammy Rondeau (Franklin, MA) accounted for two of Simmons three shots as sophomore Olivia Trull (Lowell, MA) pitched in with one. First-year Lucy McNamara (Brewster, MA) totaled 13 saves to go with a tough defensive stop by classmate Abigail Anderson (S. Yarmouth, MA).

WPI (1-1) kicks off a Homecoming tripleheader Saturday at 10am versus Elms while Simmons (1-2) entertains Mount Ida at 11am.
