Providence, RI --- Abby O'Sullivan (Walpole, MA) made her first three goals memorable ones as the freshman netted a hat trick to lift WPI to a 4-1 victory over host Johnson & Wales in a non-conference field hockey contest played through wind-swept rain on Wednesday evening.

Johnson & Wales produced the first goal in the seventh minute. Current GNAC Rookie of the Week Natalie Rivas (Andover, NJ) pulled the ball out of a scrum and fired from point-blank range.

The Engineers answered eight minutes later when O'Sullivan took a pass from Carly Cidado (Easton, MA) and scored from the left side. O'Sullivan gave WPI the lead in the 28th minute when she put back a rebound for her second goal. Her third goal came at the 49:56 mark as the Engineers scored twice in a seven-minute span.

WPI had a 16-10 advantage in shots as well as 6-2 in penalty corners. Engineer goalkeeper Karen Mushrall (Mariaville, ME) recorded five saves over the first 56:18 while Emily Wilson (Malvern, PA) worked the final 13:42 in net.  Abby King (Fairfield, MA) aided the backline effort with a defensive save.  Claire Nolan (West Bridgewater, MA) came up with 11 saves to keep the Wildcats in the game.

Johnson & Wales is on the road Saturday for an 11am contest at Anna Maria.  WPI is off until Tuesday when its hosts undefeated Lasell at 7pm.
