WORCESTER – Sophomore Emma Bennett (Hampstead, NH) notched the only goal in WPI's 1-0 NEWMAC field hockey triumph over city-rival Clark Wednesday night inside Alumni Stadium.

The Engineers (8-2, 2-1 NEWMAC) eighth win of the season also serves as head coach Lisa Moreau's 100th on the WPI sidelines.

Shortly after the halftime break, Bennett teamed with sophomore Abby O'Sullivan (Walpole, MA) to get the Crimson and Gray on the board at 36:33. Later in the half, freshman Angie Ferro (Northboro, MA) chipped the ball over the defense, but it caromed off the crossbar at 56:54.

Clark's lone shot on-goal came off the stick of junior Julia D'Antonio (Ramsey, NJ) following its only penalty corner at 61:14. WPI senior Karen Mushrall (Mariaville, ME) made the stop.

Senior Dani Michaud (Providence, RI) totaled 13 saves for the guests. Senior Olivia Barksdale (Fort Washington, MD), sophomore Chase Collier (Lisbon, ME) and sophomore Cheyanne Zappala (Laconia, NH) were also credited with a shot.

In all, WPI took 26 of the game's 30 shots and were awarded 13 of 14 penalty corners.

The Engineers entertain Wheaton Friday at 6pm while Clark (6-5, 0-4 NEWMAC) hosts nationally-ranked Babson Saturday at noon.
