Giorgi Named NEWMAC Field Hockey Defensive Athlete of the Week

Lindsey Giorgi

Westwood, MA --- WPI sophomore Lindsey Giorgi (Barre, MA) has been named as the NEWMAC Field Hockey Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Giorgi notched the first two points of her career Saturday as WPI blanked MIT, 4-0. The sophomore assisted on the second and third goal, and helped keep the host Engineers, who are receiving votes in the NFHCA national poll, off the board. The victory was the first for Worcester's Engineers over their rival from Cambridge since a 2-1 overtime victory on September 29th, 2009. The streak was nine games, including a NEWMAC Tournament Quarterfinal contest in 2014.

It is the Boynton Hillers second honor of the season (Abby O'Sullivan – Sept. 17) and the first defensive selection since goalkeeper Karen Mushrall earned the nod last October.

Field Hockey (10-2, 4-1 NEWMAC) travels to Smith (8-5, 3-2) Tuesday and hosts nationally-ranked Babson (12-3, 6-0) Saturday.
