WORCESTER – Sophomore Amanda Garofalo (Fairfield, NJ) scored two of MIT's goals in a 3-1 NEWMAC Field Hockey quarterfinal triumph over host WPI Tuesday night in Alumni Stadium.

Fifth-seeded MIT (10-7) now heads to top-seeded and nationally-ranked Babson for a semifinal contest Thursday night. WPI, despite being regionally-ranked, sees its season come to a close with a 12-5 ledger.

Garofalo bookended the scoring with unassisted goals at 17:17 and 58:08. The first got a piece of the goalie but trickled in while the latter was in response to WPI's rebound goal by freshman Angie Ferro (Northboro, MA) just over a minute earlier. Senior Bailey Tregoning (Frederick, MD) put Cambridge's Engineers ahead 2-0 with less than five minutes remaining in the first half with help from junior Devon Goetz (Rockville, MD).

MIT sophomore Grace Moore (Boston, MA) and WPI senior Karen Mushrall (Mariaville, ME) stopped eight shots for their respective team. Ferro was joined by junior Bridget Sullivan (Wilmington, MA) with three shots on-goal for the Crimson and Gray.

Cambridge's Engineers finished the game with an 18-13 margin, including a 14-3 differential in the first 35 minutes. In addition to a 10-4 advantage in shots, WPI was also awarded two more penalty corners than the guests in the second half.
