Gilbert, AZ --- The WPI duo of Shannon Hynes and Abby O'Sullivan were selected All-New England East this week by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA). It marked the first time the Engineers had a pair of players named to the squads since Hall of Famers Nicole Maglione '09 and Kelly Johnson '10 accomplished the feat in 2006.
Westwood, MA --- WPI senior Shannon Hynes and junior Abby O’Sullivan have been named as NEWMAC Field Hockey All-Conference first team honorees while junior Kaitlyn Hess was tabbed to the league’s second team.
Cambridge, MA --- Three goals in the third quarter, including a pair of penalty strokes, propelled the No. 2 seeded MIT field hockey team to a 4-1 victory over No. 3 WPI on Thursday night. Senior Taylor Grey powered MIT with two goals and one assist.
WORCESTER -- With three goals in the first three quarters of play, third-seeded WPI defended Alumni Stadium with a 3-0 win over sixth-seeded Mount Holyoke Tuesday night in a NEWMAC Field Hockey Tournament quarterfinal. WPI will travel to play second-seeded MIT at 6 p.m. Thursday in a semifinal contest.
WORCESTER — The sport of field hockey requires physical endurance, leg speed, top-notch hand-eye coordination, and many other athletic attributes in order to consistently perform at a high level.
Performing at a high level, for nearly a decade, would be Wilmington native Bridget Sullivan, who currently employs her athletic trade with the Worcester Polytechnic Institute Engineers field hockey team.

WORCESTER, MA --- Junior Abby O’Sullivan’s stand-alone goal in the 19th minute proved to be enough as WPI went on the road and defeated Clark 1-0 in an important NEWMAC field hockey contest played Wednesday afternoon.
Babson Park, MA --- Junior Lindsey Giorgi scored her second career goal at 1:33 of the first quarter, but the Engineers fell on the road to the 17th-ranked Beavers.
WORCESTER – Bridget Sullivan (Wilmington, MA) scored off an assist from Abby O’Sullivan (Walpole, MA), and Ali Gannon (Fremont, NH) stopped four shots, as the WPI field hockey team moved back into the win column with a 1-0 NEWMAC victory over visiting Smith Tuesday afternoon in Alumni Stadium. Lindsey Giorgi (Barre, MA), the reigning WPI Women’s Student-Athlete of the Week, also notched an early defensive save in the effort.
WORCESTER – Amanda Garofalo (Fairfield, NJ) notched a pair of goals as visiting MIT handed the WPI field hockey team its first loss of the 2019 season with a 3-2 triumph in a Saturday afternoon NEWMAC matchup in Alumni Stadium.
WORCESTER – Abby O'Sullivan (Walpole, MA) and Carly Cidado (Easton, MA) each scored a first period goal and Ali Gannon (Fremont, NH) totaled a career high with eight saves for the second consecutive game as WPI remained unbeaten with a 2-1 win over host Worcester State in non-conference field hockey action Thursday afternoon at Coughlin Field.
Gilbert, AZ --- WPI’s Shannon Hynes (Auburn, MA) has been selected to participate in the 2019 Victory Sports Tours/NFHCA Division III Senior Game which is currently projected for 5pm on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at the Spooky Nook Sports Complex in Manheim, PA following the completion of the NCAA Division III semifinal games. Hynes is the second back represent the Crimson and Gray, and first since 2018 Hall of Fame inductee Kelly Johnson made the trip to Mount Holyoke in 2009.
New London, CT --- Lindsey Giorgi’s (Barre, MA) first career goal was the game-winner with just 2:33 remaining in regulation as WPI kept its perfect season alive with a pulsating 5-4 come-from-behind victory at Conn College on Tuesday afternoon.
Norton, MA --- Abby O’Sullivan’s notched her fourth career hat trick as the WPI field hockey team remained undefeated with a 6-1 road NEWMAC victory at Wheaton on Saturday afternoon.
WORCESTER – A Bridget Sullivan (Wilmington, MA) goal with 6:13 left in regulation separated WPI and visiting Springfield in a 1-0 NEWMAC field hockey match played Saturday morning on Rooftop Field as part of Homecoming Weekend.
The WPI and Assumption field hockey teams scrimmaged early this preseason and, for the first time, sisters Shannon and Kileigh Hynes of Auburn were opponents.
Easton resident Carly Cidado is second on the team with eight goals and 18 points while West Bridgewater’s Julia Vanderstreet has four goals and two assists off the bench for the Engineers, who are 9-0.
WORCESTER – Carly Cidado (Easton, MA) netted a hat-trick and Abby O’Sullivan (Walpole, MA) eclipsed 100 career points as the WPI field hockey team blanked visiting Becker, 6-0, Friday evening on Alumni Stadium. O’Sullivan became the first 100-plus point scorer since 2017 WPI Hall of Fame inductee Danielle Luongo ’94 accomplished the feat as a senior.

In recent weeks, concerns about the mosquito-borne illness Eastern Equine Encephalitis (EEE) in the region have increased considerably. The city and state have urged residents to follow guidelines to reduce risk, in particular, by avoiding outdoor activities from dusk to dawn when mosquitoes are most active.
Wellesley, MA --- Abby O’Sullivan (Walpole, MA) scored a pair of goals, including the 40th of her collegiate career, and added two assists as WPI opened its 2019 NEWMAC field hockey slate with a 5-2 win at Wellesley Saturday.
Fitchburg, MA --- Bridget Sullivan (Wilmington, MA) recorded two goals and two assists as the WPI field hockey team remained unbeaten with an 8-0 victory at Fitchburg State Tuesday afternoon at Elliot Field. Abby O’Sullivan (Walpole, MA) also scored twice for the Engineers (6-0).
WORCESTER – Ali Gannon (Fremont, NH) collected her fifth career win as WPI defeated visiting Elms, 4-0, in a Saturday morning field hockey contest played on Rooftop Field. Gannon was called upon once in the effort.
WORCESTER – Carly Cidado (Easton, MA) and Abby O’Sullivan (Walpole, MA) each scored a pair of goals to lead WPI past Simmons, 5-1, in a Tuesday afternoon non-conference field hockey match at Alumni Stadium.
WORCESTER – Kaitlyn Hess (Milford, NH) scored two of WPI’s three goals in the third period to spark a 3-0 victory over visiting Salve Regina in a non-conference field hockey matchup Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium.
WORCESTER – Julia Vanderstreet (West Bridgewater, MA) scored two goals and notched a pair of assists while Emma Bennett (Hampstead, NH) and Lauren Dishong (Milford, NH) also netted a pair of goals to lead WPI to an 8-0 victory over visiting Bridgewater State in a non-conference field hockey matchup Tuesday night at Alumni Stadium. It was the first multiple goal game for Bennett and Dishong.
Dudley, MA --- Abby O’Sullivan netted a pair of goals and an assist and goalkeeper Ali Gannon notched her first career victory as the WPI field hockey team opened the 2019 season by blanking host Nichols 3-0 on Friday evening.
