WORCESTER – Julia Vanderstreet (West Bridgewater, MA) scored two goals and notched a pair of assists while Emma Bennett (Hampstead, NH) and Lauren Dishong (Milford, NH) also netted a pair of goals to lead WPI to an 8-0 victory over visiting Bridgewater State in a non-conference field hockey matchup Tuesday night at Alumni Stadium. It was the first multiple goal game for Bennett and Dishong.
Abby O'Sullivan (Walpole, MA) and Shannon Hynes (Auburn, MA) teamed up early to put the Crimson and Gray on the scoreboard at 3:22. Moments later, Bennett scored her first of the evening with help from Bridget Sullivan (Wilmington, MA) at 4:16. Dishong then netted her first collegiate goal off an assist from Natalie Mohn (Huntington, VT) at 11:39. Later in the half, Vanderstreet found the back of the cage at 28:06.
The second half saw Bennett and Vanderstreet score at 34:46 and 46:47 respectively. Dishong followed with the seventh goal of the night at 50:00 and, with time expired, Kaitlyn Hess (Milford, NH) made it an even 8-0. Both were aided by Vanderstreet.
The entire WPI roster made it on the field including goalkeepers Ali Gannon (Fremont, NH), Gabrielle Acquista (Longmeadow, MA) and MC Shea (Ewing, NJ). Gannon made one stop in the first half as Acquista and Shea went untested in 15 minutes apiece in the second half.
Jacquelyn Legendre (Westport, MA) was responsible for the guests lone shot on the night while Jillian Delaney (Foxboro, MA) collected three saves in the complete game for the Bears.
WPI took 15 of 16 shots including 11 of 12 on-goal and were awarded all eight penalty corners.
The Engineers (2-0) entertain Salve Regina Saturday at noon while Bridgewater State (0-2) is off until next Wednesday when it hosts Wellesley at 7pm.
