WORCESTER – Carly Cidado (Easton, MA) and Abby O'Sullivan (Walpole, MA) each scored a pair of goals to lead WPI past Simmons, 5-1, in a Tuesday afternoon non-conference field hockey match at Alumni Stadium.

With the win, WPI improves to 4-0 for the fourth time in the Lisa Moreau era and collects its fourth consecutive win over the Sharks (1-3) in as many years.

After a scoreless first period, O'Sullivan redirected a shot by Emma Bennett (Hampstead, NH) at 26:04. Moments later, Paris Lopez (Smithfield, RI) entered the game to score her second career penalty stroke goal at 26:28. Simmons responded when Haley Dover (West Springfield, MA) tipped in a shot from Maggie Fuzak (Buffalo, NY) at 28:18.

It remained 2-1 until later in the third when Cidado notched back-to-back goals at 37:15 and 39:26. The first was assisted by O'Sullivan while the latter was aided by Bridget Sullivan (Wilmington, MA). O'Sullivan went on to make it 5-0 just 3:18 into the fourth off a feed from Angie Ferro (Northboro, MA).

Ali Gannon (Fremont, NH) stopped three shots for WPI while Lucy McNamara (Brewster, MA) amassed 14 saves, two shy of tying her career high set at the end of the 2017 season. Abby Anderson (South Yarmouth, MA) added a defensive save for the Sharks.

For the game, WPI took 27 of 34 shots and were awarded 10 of the 13 penalty corners. Lily D'Anna (Woodstock, VT) recorded three of the guests seven shots as four different Sharks took aim at the back of the cage.

Both teams have 11am home games on Saturday as Engineers take on Elms and Simmons faces Anna Maria.
