Gannon Nabs Fifth Win as Field Hockey Corners Elms to Remain Unbeaten on Rooftop

WORCESTER – Ali Gannon (Fremont, NH) collected her fifth career win as WPI defeated visiting Elms, 4-0, in a Saturday morning field hockey contest played on Rooftop Field. Gannon was called upon once in the effort.

The Engineers remain unbeaten on the year at 5-0, and are now 2-0 all-time on the roof, while the Blazers slip to 1-4.

In the first half, Carly Cidado (Easton, MA) scored following an assist by Abby O'Sullivan (Walpole, MA) at 3:16. Kaitlyn Hess (Milford, NH) later made it 2-0 early in the second period at 17:20.

Paris Lopez (Smithfield, RI) netted her second penalty stroke marker in as many games with 3:55 to play. Rachel Drasser (Lunenburg, MA) then scored her first collegiate goal with eight seconds left on the clock.

Erin Thibodeau (East Longmeadow, MA) took the only shot, which was on-goal, for Elms. Defensively, Nora Newman (Woburn, MA) stopped nine shots for the guests.

For the game, WPI took 23 of 24 shots and was awarded 14 of 15 penalty corners.

The Engineers are on the road Tuesday for a 4pm match at Fitchburg State while the Blazers are scheduled to return to the city for a 7pm meeting at Clark, also on Tuesday.
