Fitchburg, MA --- Bridget Sullivan (Wilmington, MA) recorded two goals and two assists as the WPI field hockey team remained unbeaten with an 8-0 victory at Fitchburg State Tuesday afternoon at Elliot Field. Abby O'Sullivan (Walpole, MA) also scored twice for the Engineers (6-0).
Also finding the back of the cage was Carly Cidado (Easton, MA), Paris Lopez (Smithfield, RI), Anne Davis (Sandwich, MA) and Zoe Januszewski (Ventura, CA). Shannon Hynes (Auburn, MA), Lindsey Giorgi (Barre, MA), Kaitlyn Hess (Milford, NH) and Nikki Espeland (Stafford, VA) each added an assist in the effort. Ali Gannon (Fremont, NH) went untested in the first three periods while Gabrielle Acquista (Longmeadow, MA) stopped three shots in relief.
Sarah Craig (Winchendon, MA), Chloe Gladu (North Reading, MA) and Hannah Rivera (Templeton, MA) each registered a shot on-goal while Nicole Tocco (Gloucester, MA) was also credited with a shot for the hosts. Colleen Lamprey (Cherry Valley, MA), meanwhile, totaled 15 saves.
Sullivan and Hynes teamed up for the initial goal at 5:18. Early in the second period, Cidado and Sullivan combined efforts to make it 2-0 at 17:35.
It remained 2-0 until 41 seconds into the third thanks to the first of two consecutive goals by O'Sullivan, who scored again at 35:19. The first was setup by Giorgi and the second by Sullivan, who later upped the margin to 5-0 at 38:37. The final goal of the third was a penalty stroke taken by Lopez at 42:20.
After Davis and Espeland connected at 52:26, Januszewski capped the scoring with an unassisted marker at 58:23.
WPI took 28 of 32 shots and was awarded 10 of 12 penalty corners.
The Engineers travel to Wellesley to begin NEWMAC action Saturday at noon. The Falcons (1-5) host Rivier in a 6pm non-conference match on Thursday.
