  • Bartley Receives Prestigious Denise Nicoletti Trustees' Award

    Worcester, MA --- WPI head men's basketball coach Chris Bartley recently received the Denise Nicoletti Trustees' Award for Service to Community during the university's annual Honors Convocation on April 22. The awards honored five WPI faculty members, a staff member, and a graduate student for outstanding research, teaching, advising, and contributions to the community.
  • Antoine Coleman Tabbed First Team All-ECAC

    Worcester, MA --- WPI's Antoine Coleman (Everett, MA) received yet another honor for his stand-out season. The senior forward has been named ECAC first team All-New England. During the 2007-2008 campaign, Coleman led the Engineers in scoring (14.5 ppg) and rebounding (6.0 rpg). The senior forward had his best offensive season while also adding 40 steals, 38 assists and 14 blocks.
  • Coleman and Marois Named to NEBCA D3 Senior All-Star Game

    Worcester, MA --- Senior forwards Antoine Coleman and Jim Marois were chosen to compete in the 2008 New England Basketball Coaches Association (NEBCA) Division III Senior All-Star Game which will take place at Babson College on Sunday, April 13. The rosters were selected by several committees made up of area college coaches.

    Worcester, MA --- WPI senior Antoine Coleman (Everett, MA) has been named a third team 2008 State Farm Division III All-American as selected by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). It marks the second straight year that a member of head coach Chris Bartley’s squad has been honored. In 2007, Ryan Cain (Webster, MA) also was selected to the third team.

Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the respective schools. All SIDs in the region were given the opportunity to vote.

    Collegeville, PA --- All-American candidate TonTon Balenga tallied a career-best 31 points to help lift Virginia Wesleyan to a hard-earned 80-75 victory over WPI in a NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament first round contest played at Ursinus College on Friday evening. WPI, appearing in its fourth straight NCAA Tournament, sees its season come to an end with a 21-7 record.

With the win, Coast Guard earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championships. WPI, who has earned an NCAA bid the last three years, sits on the bubble.

Marois paced the WPI attack with 17 points while the trio closed out their NEWMAC regular season career with an eye-popping 41-7 mark.

The Engineers, who reach triple digits for the sixth time this season, are now 19-5 overall and 10-1 in the league, while the Lyons are 12-10 and 3-8.

Winners of four straight, WPI improves to 16-5 and 7-1 in league play. Jerome Kirkland led all scorers with 25 points while Jim Marois and Ryan Bourque chipped in with 15 points each.

    New London, CT --- Jerome Kirkland led all scorers with 16 points while Jim Marois added 15 points leading WPI to a 66-57 win over Coast Guard in a NEWMAC game. Coast Guard scored the first five points of the game and led 11-8 with 14:52 left in the first half before WPI used a 9-2 run including a pair of 3-pointers by junior NT Izuchi taking a 17-13 lead with 11:06 left.
  • Men's Basketball Goes Overtime to Defeat MIT on the Road

    Cambridge, MA --- Antoine Coleman's three hung up on the rim for enough time for everyone to take notice, before falling into the cylinder for the game-clinching field goal as WPI solidified its spot in first-place in the NEWMAC with a 58-52 overtime victory at MIT. The loss was MIT's first of the season in Rockwell Cage.

    Worcester, MA --- Jerome Kirkland (Boston, MA) erupted for a career-high 24 points to help lift WPI to an 86-70 victory over visiting Wheaton Saturday afternoon. The NEWMAC conference contest was played at Worcester State's Lancer Gymnasium after water damage to the court at Harrington Auditorium earlier this week.

With the victory, the Bantams up their record to 11-3 while WPI, who saw its five-game winning streak snapped, slips to 11-4.

The 120 points establishes a new school record, surpassing the old mark of 119 set in win against MIT on February 24th, 1977.
