• Robinson Adds ECAC New England Division III All-Star To Resume

    Centerville, MA --- The ECAC tabbed Jeffrey Robinson as a New England Division III All-Star by the organization on Tuesday. The senior joins Ryan Cain who picked up multiple ECAC nods in 2005, 2006 and 2007. Robinson adds the award to his NABC and D3Hoops.com regional honors, as well as, NEWMAC Player of the Year accolade this postseason.

    Kansas City, MO --- Jeffrey Robinson has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches Division III Northeast All-District first team as announced by the organization on Wednesday. Robinson is the first WPI honoree since Antoine Coleman in 2008. WPI finished the season 23-6 overall and made its sixth NCAA tournament appearance in the last seven years, and eighth overall under 10th year head coach Chris Bartley.

    Minneapolis, MN --- For the second straight season, WPI men’s basketball player Jeffrey Robinson has been selected second team All-Northeast region by D3hoops.com. Robinson joins Antoine Coleman and Ryan Cain as the only Engineers with multiple all-region accolades from D3hoops.com. Robinson averaged 16.2 points per game en route to being named NEWMAC Player of the Year this winter. The senior led WPI in scoring in 19 out of its 27 outings this winter for the conference's top offensive team.

    Women's Indoor Track and Field's Noelle Richard and Men's Basketball's Jeff Robinson have been named WPI Athletes of the Week. Richard won the ECAC Championship in the 400-meter dash and was selected to compete in the NCAA Championships. Robinson made 3-pointer with 14.5 seconds to go in the 58-57 NCAA first round game versus Bridgewater State.

    Worcester, MA --- Amherst senior Conor Meehan recorded totals of 20 points, 10 assists and six rebounds to help pace the Lord Jeffs to a 92-70 win this evening over host WPI in the second round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament. Amherst (24-3) will play Rhode Island College in Friday’s sectionals at a site to be determined.

    Worcester, MA --- Freshman Aaron Toomey led all scorers with 16 points in a balanced scoring attack to help lead Amherst to a 79-39 triumph over Skidmore in the opening round of the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Tournament at WPI’s Harrington Auditorium. The Lord Jeffs who improve their season mark to 23-3 will await their opponent for the next round which features the hosting Engineers and Bridgewater State.

    Worcester, MA --- WPI has been selected as an at-large team and will host Bridgewater State, Amherst and Skidmore in the first and second rounds of the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Amherst and Skidmore will play Friday at 5:30pm with the WPI and Bridgewater State game slated to follow at 7:30pm. Saturday's second round game is scheduled for 7:00pm.

    Worcester, MA --- Tournament Most Outstanding Player Will Tashman notched game-highs of 17 points and 10 rebounds and MIT shot a sizzling 72.7% from the floor in the second half to upset top seed and host WPI 63-52 in the championship game of the 2011 NEWMAC Men’s Basketball Tournament on Sunday afternoon. WPI, which was playing in its sixth final in the last seven years, entered the week ranked third in New England in the latest regional rankings and should receive strong consideration for an at-large bid. The games will take place this weekend in Harrington Auditorium with the top-seeded Engineers hosting fifth-seeded Coast Guard on Saturday, February 26th at 1pm. The Bears advanced to the semifinals with a 62-53 road win Wednesday night at Babson.

    Worcester, MA --- Four players reached double figures to help nationally-ranked WPI rally from an eight-point first half deficit to defeat rival Clark 69-52 Saturday afternoon in the NEWMAC men’s basketball season finale for both squads. WPI, ranked No. 10 in the most recent D3hoops Top 25 and third in the latest NCAA Division III New England rankings, remains undefeated at home this winter. The Crimson and Gray are 10-0 in Harrington Auditorium and end the regular season with a 21-4 record. The Engineers completed NEWMAC play with an 11-1 mark for the fourth time in the last five seasons.

With its 13th consecutive victory, WPI (20-3 overall, 10-0 NEWMAC) clinches the outright regular season conference title and as the top seed will host the NEWMAC Semifinals and Finals on February 26 and 27. The 20-win season is also the Engineers’ eighth straight – the second longest streak in the country behind only Wooster’s 15.

    Worcester, MA --- Southern New England’s second winter storm in less than a week has forced the postponement of Tuesday’s men’s basketball game between WPI and Clark. The contest has been rescheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday, January 19th at Clark at 7pm. The game on Tuesday was slated to be televised locally on TV Charter 3. As of late Tuesday morning, officials were working on confirming that Wednesday’s makeup date would be broadcasted.
