During the festivities, twelve student-athletes were presented with major awards. These accolades highlight some of the best varsity student-athletes at WPI. These awards are presented to student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and in their respective sports.

    Minneapolis, MN --- WPI senior Clyde Niba has been named to the D3hoops.com All-Northeast fourth team, as announced on Monday. The organization has handed out out all-region honors to a Crimson and Gray student-athlete each of the past seven years and 12 of the last 13 campaigns.
  • Men's Basketball Bested by Cortland State in NCAA Tournament First Round Contest

    Amherst, MA --- Cortland used a stingy defense to hold WPI to a season low in points and connected on 16-of-20 2-point field goal attempts as the Red Dragons defeated the Engineers 69-50 in a NCAA Division III Tournament first round contest played Friday at Amherst’s LeFrak Gymnasium.
  • Niba and Doncaster Land on NEWMAC Men's Basketball All-Conference First Team

    BOSTON – Senior Clyde Niba (Atlanta, GA) and junior Sean Doncaster (Medford, MA) have been named to the NEWMAC Men's Basketball All-Conference First Team, as selected by the league's head coaches following the 25-game season. Matt Carr and Jeffrey Robinson were the last Boynton Hill duo to receive first team recognition back in 2011.

Highlighting the selections were three-time honorees Mark Overdevest (Morrinsville, New Zealand) from men’s basketball, Nathan Hughes (Arlington, VA) from men’s swimming & diving and Kate Gillis (Needham, MA) and Veronica Nikolaki (Athens, Greece) from women’s swimming and diving.

    WORCESTER — Bill Gibbons Sr. was a freshman at Clark when athletic director Russ Granger asked him if he would like to help out with the Clark Tournament, the area’s eminent high school boys’ basketball tourney that was then in its 15th year. Gibbons’ first tasks included bringing oranges and towels to the players’ lockers in old Alumni Gym at halftime and after the games.

    When Chris Bartley took over the WPI men’s program in 2001, the Engineers had lost 27 straight games. Make that 28 when the Engineers fell in Bartley’s WPI debut at Framingham State. A few days later, WPI beat Curry and Richie Burns and Bob Tupper, best friends and longtime co-workers in WPI’s facilities department, were among the “six or seven fans,” as Bartley remembers it, inside Harrington Auditorium to witness it.

Junior Sean Doncaster (Medford, MA) notched his second consecutive double-double for WPI with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Bradley Jomard (Paris, France) led all players with 21 points for MIT.

    New London, CT -- Junior Ian Converse had 14 of his career-high 21 points in the first half leading #13 WPI to a 78-58 win over Coast Guard in a NEWMAC game. With the win, WPI head coach Chris Bartley became the Engineers all-time wins leader as he picked up the 291st win of his career passing the mark of 290 held by Ken Kaufman.

    Lewiston, ME --- The WPI men’s basketball team returned to action after nearly three weeks off and defeated host Bates 58-51 Tuesday evening in Alumni Gymnasium. The No. 14 Engineers moved to 9-1 with their second straight victory while the Bobcats dropped its third consecutive game in a matchup of two NCAA Tournament teams from a season ago.
