Minneapolis, MN --- WPI junior Garrett Stephenson (Townsend, MA) has been selected to the D3hoops.com All-Northeast third team, as announced on Tuesday. It marks the first time since 2016 an Engineer has be named to the organization's all-region team but the it 13th time in the last 17 seasons that a Crimson and Gray player has earned the accolade from D3hoops.com
Stephenson paced the way for WPI in 2019-20 averaging 15.9 points per game and connecting on 63.2 percent of his shots from the field, the second-best mark in the NEWMAC this season and 13th best in all of Division III. He also hauled in 6.2 rebounds and doled out 1.8 assists per game playing and starting in 22 games this season for WPI. His 15.9 points ranked 10th overall in the conference while his 6.2 rebounds were 12th best.
In the postseason, Stephenson elevated his game. In the NEWMAC championship game against Coast Guard, Stephenson tied his career-high with a 26 point effort while also pulling down 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season and seventh of his career. Against Yeshiva (NY) in the NCAA Tournament, the junior center drained 5-of-6 field goals attempts from the field despite facing constant double teams in the post.
The Engineers (20-8) won 20-plus games for the 14th time in 17 years under 19-year head coach Chris Bartley. The Engineers appeared in the NEWMAC Tournament championship game for the third straight season and made their 11th NCAA appearance during Bartley's tenure and 13th overall
