Lowell, MA --- The WPI men's rowing team began its 2013-2014 season at the Textile River Regatta in Lowell on Sunday. The Crimson and Gray amassed a gold and silver to go along with a fifth, sixth and seventh place performances.
The varsity eight of John Morrissey (New Milford, CT), Nick Cebry (Bedford, MA), Kendall Cotton (Harvard, MA), Alex Barat (Franklin Park, NJ), Gary Jackson (Hopedale, MA), Matt Foley (Pepperell, MA), Jackson Krupnick (Ashville, NC), Matt Deptula (Budd Lake, NJ) and coxswain Tyler Collins (Manchester, NH) earned a silver in the club eight (19:20.995) and was fifth in the open eight (20:09.462). The second varsity eight comprised of Keegan Cole (Spencer, MA), Joe Sperry (Northampton, MA), Norm Harris (Gilford, NH), Nick Van Sciver (Wayland, MA), Brede Doerner (Branford, CT), Zach Gendreau (Galesville, WI), Danny Singer (Eldersburg, MD), Dan Seaman (Claremont, NH) and coxswain Mitra Marvasti-Sitterly (Glastonbury, CT) placed sixth in the club eight (20:19.934) and, with Paul Esteve (Colchester, CT) in the bow, finished seventh in the open (20:52.150).
The novice eight made up of Tony DiBiasio (Manchester, NH), Jack Perry (Londonderry, NH), Joe Lidwin (Chantilly, VA), Victor Vasquez (Lynn, MA), Dean Schifilliti (Ossining, NY), Zachary Ericson (Beacon, NY), Scott Cazier (Wheaton Ridge, CO), Kyle Bessette (Chatman, MA) and coxswain John Lomi (Coventry, CT) struck gold, winning its race by over a minute in a time of 23:19.76.
The third varsity eight composed of Michael Beinor (Sutton, MA), Bobby Ronacher (Dunedin, FL), Keegan Train (Excelsior, MN), Esteve, Matthew Ryder (Lebanon, NH), Ryan Killea (Hillsborough, CA), Michael LoTurco (Storrs, CT), Chris Sample (Groveland, MA) and coxswain Kelsey Regan (Winchendon, MA) rowed to a 10th place showing in the club eight with a time of 21:19.481.
WPI men's rowing hosts the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta on Saturday, October 12th.
