Worcester, MA --- WPI men's rowing opened the 2013 spring season by competing for the Donahue Cup on Saturday, squaring off with Williams, MIT, Connecticut College and Franklin & Marshall on Lake Quisigamond.
The varsity eight comprised of John Morrissey (New Milford, CT), Matt Foley (Pepperell, MA), Kendall Cotton (Harvard, MA), Alex Barat (Franklin Park, NJ), Gary Jackson (Hopedale, MA), Joe Sperry (Northampton, MA), Keegan Cole (Spencer, MA), Nick Van Sciver (Wayland, MA), and coxswain Mitra Marvasti-Sitterly (Glastonbury, CT) finished third behind Williams and MIT in a time of 6:03.44.
The second varsity eight of Norm Harris (Gilford, NH), Nick Cebry (Bedford, MA), Michael Beinor (Sutton, MA), Matt Deptula (Budd Lake, NJ), Brede Doerner (Branford, CT), Dean Schifilliti (Ossining, NY), Danny Singer (Eldersburg, MD), Jackson Krupnick (Asheville, NC) and coxswain Kelsey Regan (Winchedon, MA) also rowed to a third place showing, posting a time of 6:13.72.
The men's novice eight made up of Keegan Train (Excelsior, MN), Dan Seaman (Claremont, NH), Tony DiBiasio (Manchester, NH), Ryan Killea (Hillsborough, CA), Scott Cazier (Wheat Ridge, CO), Jason Zhao (Qinhuangdao, China), Joe Lidwin (Chintilly, VA), Bobby Ronacher (Dunedin, FL) and coxswain Oliva Perry (Canton, MA) crossed the line in second, clocking a 6:38.25 to edging out a Williams boat by just four tenths of a second.
In the men's varsity four, the boat of Zach Gendreau (Galesville, WI), Paul Esteve (Colchester, CT), Matthew Ryder (Lebanon, NH), Chris Sample (Groveland, MA), and coxswain Robyn Quartararo (Smithtown, NH) was fourth (7:19.94) while the second varsity four of Jack Perry (Londonderry, NH), Victor Vazquez (Lynn, MA), Kyle Bessette (Chatham, MA), Paul Danielson (Niskayuna, NY) and coxswain John Lomi (Coventry, RI) won their racing by defeating Connecticut College with a time of 7:41.0.
WPI Men's Rowing is back in action Sunday, hosting Rochester and Bates on Lake Quinsigamond.
