Sunday Best: Men's Rowing Wins All Four, Including Retaining the Baker Cup

Worcester, MA --- WPI men's rowing came out on top of all four of its races on Lake Quinsigamond on Easter Sunday morning, including seeing its varsity eight capture the Baker Cup over Tufts for the ninth straight spring. 

The varsity eight of John Morrissey (New Milford, CT), Matt Foley (Pepperell, MA), Kendall Cotton (Harvard, MA), Alex Barat (Franklin Park, NJ), Gary Jackson (Hopedale, MA), Joe Sperry (Northampton, MA), Keegan Cole (Spencer, MA), Nick Van Sciver (Wayland, MA), and coxswain Mitra Marvasti-Sitterly (Glastonbury, CT) rowed through a slight headwind to post a winning time of 6:12.06 to defeat Skidmore (6:23.92), Tufts (6:26.53) and Vermont (6:31.40). 

The second varsity eight comprised of  Norm Harris (Gilford, NH), Nick Cebry (Bedford, MA), Michael Beinor (Sutton, MA), Matt Deptula (Budd Lake, NJ), Brede Doerner (Branford, CT), Dean Schifilliti (Ossining, NY), Danny Singer (Eldersburg, MD), Jackson Krupnick (Asheville, NC) and coxswain Kelsey Regan (Winchedon, MA) also got the privilege of throwing the coxswain in the water after crossing the finish line in a time of 6:25.2, nearly 14 seconds ahead of Skidmore and 26 seconds in front of Tufts. 

The third varsity eight made up of Zach Gendreau (Galesville, WI), Dan Seaman (Claremont, NH), Scott Cazier (Wheat Ridge, CO), Jack Perry (Londonderry, NH), Keegan Train (Excelsior, MN), Paul Esteve (Colchester, CT), Ryan Killea (Hillsborough, CA), Bobby Ronacher (Dunedin, FL) and coxswain Oliva Perry (Canton, MA) bested Vermont's novice eight by nearly 20 seconds (6:44.52 to 7:04.15) while the novice four of Tony DiBiasio (Manchester, NH), Jason Zhao (Qinhuangdao, China), Victor Vazquez (Lynn, MA), Paul Danielson (Niskayuna, NY) and coxswain John Lomi (Coventry, RI) defeated Tufts 7:35.50 to 7:47.95. 

WPI has its last regular season race Saturday before New England's and ECAC in early May.  The Engineers host Boston College in the McGee Cup on Lake Quinsigamond.
