Worcester, MA --- WPI men's rowing competed this weekend in the 50th annual Head of the Charles Regatta. The Crimson and Gray had a pair of boats participate with the varsity eight finishing sixth in the collegiate eights on Sunday and the second varsity eight placing 16th in the club eights on Saturday.
The boat of Kendell Cotton (Harvard, MA), Matt Foley (Pepperell, MA), Dean Schifilliti (Ossining, NY), Jackson Krupnick (Ashville, NC), Danny Singer (Eldersburg, MD), Nick Cebry (Bedford, MA), Keegan Cole (Spencer, MA), Matt Deptula (Budd Lake, NJ) and coxswain Mitra Marvasti-Sitterly (Glastonbury, CT) was the top finisher from New England in the collegiate eights, completing the course in a time of 15:39.607. It marked the first time during head coach Larry Noble's 16-year tenure that the Engineers defeated Williams at the HOCR.
The second varsity made up of Michael Eaton (Exeter, NH), Joe Sperry (Northampton, MA), Michael Beinor (Sutton, MA), Liam Rucker (Oakton, VA), Norm Harris (Gilford, NH), Dan Seaman (Claremont, NY), Brede Doerner (Branford, CT), Paul Esteve (Colchester, CT) and coxswain Kelsey Regan (Winchendon, MA) earned an automatic spot in the 2015 regatta for the club eights. The Crimson and Gray reached the finish line in a time of 15:38.934, just 7.21% slower than the champion.
WPI wraps up the 2014 fall season Saturday, racing in Saratoga Springs, NY at the Head of the Fish Regatta.
