Men's Rowing Varsity Eight Reaches the Medal Stand at Head of the Charles

Cambridge, MA --- WPI men's rowing earned a medal Sunday at the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta. The varsity eight placed fourth overall out of 37 boats in collegiate eight to pick up the medal.

On a day that was extremely windy, the Engineers rowed the course in a time of 16:19.634, the quickest of all New England boats, including 47 seconds faster than the Holy Cross entry which had defeated the Crimson and Gray last week at the Quinsigamond Snake Regatta.  The placing was two spots better than sixth place showings in both 2014 and 2015.

The number of medals are decided by the amount of entries (44 entries in 2015 = 5 medals while 37 entries in 2016 = 4 medals)  WPI sprinted away from fifth place UC Santa Barbara in the final 500 meters to claim the fourth and final medal.

WPI's varsity four entry placed 25th overall out of 43 finishers.  The Engineers finished the course in a time 19:22.919 just ahead of the Milwaukee School of Engineering and just behind Georgia Tech.

The Crimson and Gray conclude the fall portion of its schedule on Saturday, October 29th at the Head of the Fish Regatta in Saratoga Springs, NY.
