Peterson’s Early Goal Keys Men’s Soccer Victory at UMass Dartmouth

Nate Peterson

Dartmouth, MA --- Graduate Student Nate Peterson (Mashpee, MA) scored the lone goal in a 1-0 triumph over UMass Dartmouth in a non-conference matchup Saturday.

After multiple deflections, Peterson found the back of the net just 3:25 into the match. The Engineers tested freshman Mike Tranghese (Monson, MA) eight more times, including three shots on-goal by senior Brendan Nemes (Kingston, MA) and two by sophomore Luke Reiniger (Rowley, MA).

UMass Dartmouth junior Junior Monteiro (Praia, Cape Verde), sophomore George Papoulis (Neapoli, Greece), junior Vangel Kutulla (Norwood, MA) and semior Akere Tambi (Bamenda, Cameroon) all unsuccessfully took aim at senior backstop Connor Hoeckele (Granby, CT), who collected his second clean sheet in as many games and the 16th of his career.

WPI outshot the Corsairs 19-8 overall and 9-4 on-goal. The Crimson and Gray were also awarded eight of the contest's 11 corner kicks.

Both teams are back in action Wednesday as Wesleyan comes to Alumni Stadium for a 7pm appointment and the Corsairs welcome Fitchburg State at 4pm.
