Petersen Honored as NEWMAC Men’s Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week

Reese Petersen

Westwood, MA --- WPI senior back Reese Petersen (Springfield, NJ) has been named the NEWMAC Men's Soccer Defensive Athlete of the Week.

Petersen provided a pair of assists and the Engineer defense yielded only one goal on 11 shots in a 2-0 week. Saturday's win at MIT was the first since 2011 and first in Cambridge since 2009. It also put the Crimson and Gray in a tie atop the conference standings with nationally-ranked Springfield.

He joins sophomore forward Paul Beatty (Halifax, MA) as a 2017 weekly honoree and is the first WPI defender to be recognized since then-sophomore back Nate Peterson (Mashpee, MA) in 2014.

WPI (6-2) travels to Endicott (5-1-1), who boasts senior Ryan Cohane (Easton, CT) - the Commonwealth Coast Conference's Defensive Player of the Week, tomorrow for a 7pm start.
